Description
What type of business should you start?
For the past 10 years, Inc. 500 CEO and number-one national best-selling author, Ryan Levesque - featured for his work in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Forbes, and Entrepreneur - has guided thousands of entrepreneurs through the journey of answering this question.
One of the biggest reasons why so many new businesses fail is because in the quest to decide what business to start, most of the conventional wisdom is wrong.
Instead of obsessing over what - as in what should you sell or what should you build - you should first be asking who. As in who should you serve?
The what is a logical question that will come soon enough. But choosing your who is the foundation from which all other things are built.
That is what this book is all about.
If you've ever had the dream to start your own business, become your own boss, or do your own thing - but have been afraid to take the leap and screw up your already good life - this book is for you.
You will find the meticulously tested, step-by-step process outlined in the book is easy to follow, despite being the result of a decade of research and experience. This process, designed to minimize your risk of failure and losing money up front, coupled with the inspiring stories of everyday people who have used this process to launch successful businesses, will not only give you clarity on what type of business to start, but also the confidence to finally take that leap and get started.

Powerful Framework - Wish it was written sooner!
I don't usually write reviews... however I "read" [ok, ok, you got me, I actually listen] to so many marketing books that my Audible Platinum credits are never enough to last a full year...
To start, I thought this book would be too basic... However, Ryan Levesque deliver above what I expected. He shares a powerful framework to create a strong foundation for an online education business.
What's so powerful about the framework Ryan shares?
It asks the reader to make key business decisions based on the facts and factors that actually matter to choose:
- the right people to serve [the WHO]
- the right business model
- the right type of product
- the right market size
- the right pricing
The biggest complaint I have is that I wish this book had been available sooner...
Had I known then, what I know now, life would have been easier for me, and many others...
- I would have avoided going into a market that was too big... yes, both my bank account, and my confidence took a toll when the business I started failed because I had done all the things, and I still couldn't make it work. My canoe was overtaken with huge waves in the gigantic ocean.
- I would have helped other entrepreneurs who were struggling because they were in markets that were tiny... No matter how much effort we put into rowing, there wasn't enough water or current to continue the momentum.
And yet, it's never too late!
If you are thinking of starting an online education business (from scratch or to supplement your offline business), you MUST read this book... it will help you avoid costly mistakes.
If you already have an online education business, you MUST read this book... it will help you improve your positioning in your current market... or you might decide to pivot to a completely different market if you find out the market you're currently in isn't going to work regardless of how much time you put in.
I know this is a book I'll be recommending again and again!

Frustratingly circuitous —it drove home a point.
The book was very formulaic; I presume the author wanted to structure decision-making, and he gave good tips on using the internet to garner market information. But his reading was just insufferable, very poorly structured: long silent gaps mid-sentence that leave the listener thinking he'd completed an idea, only to be jolted as he continues speaking -often with a non-sequitur, or something grammatically ambiguous.
It really made me wonder how this bloke made millions.
Perhaps that was the point; he didn't get hung up on details or perfection, and just got the work out. A valid, if solely implicit, point.
At the end of the book he gushingly tells the readers that he loves us. I dunno, maybe that was too much information to take in as I'm on the subway listening to him. But, OK, whatever.
Toward the end of the book Levesque delves into his own personal failures and how they played out, how he felt, and the ideas and premisses undergirding his emotions. This part was really exceptional, and it's a shame that many readers will likely quit the book before reaching this part.
All in all, an OK book. I have yet to actually do exercises that he lays out in his business-opportunity vetting system -it just seems so pre-fab. But I'll give it a try.
It's not going to be a business classic, but it has some worthwhile observations and tips.
P.S. — A fortnight later:
I re-listened to half of the book while following and doing his pdf exercises. But he's just so prolix, I couldn't, or wouldn't, tolerate it. So I went into some of his myriad websites as a customer, to see his methods in practice; I felt like I suffered some sort of ADHD-overload while dropping LSD at the same time, all the while, telling myself, 'hey, this guy has been successful with this, figure out how and why', but just ending up wanting to emigrate from Earth if this is what its inhabitants want and this is how to succeed here.
Finally, mercifully —I put it all down; I concluded that I was trying too hard to supplement or replace my own mind and reasoning, and obviate my risk and responsibility by adhering to someone's approved mental structure. All this, a great entrepreneur does not do. In the end, whether I succeed or fail, this was not my way forward.
The book was so spinningly frustrating and tiring to listen to, even at 2x speed, I sometimes thought that that was the author's goal, to prod the reader to think and go forward as he or she sees fit, and to stop looking at others and their imparted wisdom if it's unconvincing. ...If that was the author's intention, this book is better than it reads.

Great actionable info to help entrepreneurs....
This book hit at just the right time for me... I have several business ventures in different stages of development. This book is helping me narrow my focus and push through to complete and launch ONE.
I highly recommend printing the PDF stuff and ACTUALLY doing the exercises along the way instead of just consuming yet another book without implementing its gold nuggets.
Currently sitting with a coffee, note book open, putting pen to paper as I go through Ryan's recommended process. I hope you do as well
Good Luck and to your Success!
