Call Me by Your Name first swept across the world in 2007. It is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. During the restless summer weeks, unrelenting but buried currents of obsession, fascination, and desire intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them and verge toward the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy. André Aciman's critically acclaimed debut novel is a frank, unsentimental, heartrending elegy to human passion.
More praise for Call Me By Your Name:
"Hammer’s soft, velvety voice lends itself perfectly to the story and its Italian setting. While you might think this one isn’t worth a listen if you’ve already seen the movie or read the book, many reviewers say it is still worth taking in even if you know the story - some even say it’s worth listening to more than once." Avis de l'équipe
Editors Select, October 2017
Andre Aciman's critically acclaimed novel may finally be stepping into modern classic status, having recently emerged from relative obscurity due to the upcoming movie release starring Armie Hammer. And its place in the literary canon is well deserved, depicting perfectly the infatuated experience of first love (I won't say "feeling" because the picture Aciman paints is not a singular "thing" - it's very much a journey through obsession). The story is beautiful, erotic, and feels firmly rooted in human truths (and will make you blush). But what makes it truly worthy of listening to - and why it's my pick for October - is THAT voice. Armie Hammer's narration is among the best I've ever experienced. —Emily, Audible Editor
Commentaires
"...Hammer's voice is brimming with such melody that, if you listen to it long enough, you can probably get drunk off it." (Vulture.com)
"...Armie Hammer (who plays Oliver in the movie) steps effortlessly into Elio's interior world. The result is staggering." (BookRiot)
"A must-listen for anyone familiar with the book or film." (Buzzfeed)
Livre très émouvant portée par la voix de lecteur

This, for many reasons:
- the novel is entirely narrated from Elio’s point of view, what provides coherence to the plot while maintaining mystery around Oliver;
- the epilogue is much more detailed, and the very essence of the conclusion is different from the movie’s, the novel ending with the work’s title and giving it true meaning;
- what Elio describes as the « best night in his life » in the novel is completely absent from the movie!
- there is no mumble-jumble of languages in the written work and although the novel was written in English, everyone is understood to be habitually speaking Italian.
Given the author’s biography and the fact he identifies the novel’s location only with the initial B, it can be interpreted as autobiographical. No doubt, with embellishments were made as many details appear highly unrealistic.
Those who have seen the movie will benefit greatly from the novel. Those who have not may abstain without great loss.

First I saw the film: a wonder. Then I wanted to know more, a book being more detailed than a film. But I got more than details. I discovered the pen of André Aciman, the virtuoso of feelings, the master of obsession, the genius of sensuality. What a beautiful writing! It carried me away. So did Armie Hammer’s voice. His reading is both sensitive and precise. He found the right tone. It’s a happy literary and sensory experience for me. I recommend the audiobook.
