Description
An Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal best seller.
From New York Times best-selling author Catherine Ryan Hyde comes a gripping and emotional novel about friendship, motherhood, and the journey toward finding a place to call home.
Brooke is a divorced single mom, financially strapped, living with her mother, and holding tight to the one thing that matters most: her two-year-old daughter, Etta. Then, in a matter of seconds, Brooke’s life is shattered when she’s carjacked. Helpless and terrified, all Brooke can do is watch as Etta, still strapped in her seat, disappears into the Los Angeles night.
Miles away, Etta is found by Molly, a homeless teen who is all too used to darkness. Thrown away by her parents, and with a future as stable as the wooden crate she calls home, Molly survives day to day by her wits. As unpredictable as her life is, she’s stunned to find Etta, abandoned and alone. Shielding the little girl from more than the elements, Molly must put herself in harm’s way to protect a child as lost as she is.
Out of one terrible moment, Brooke’s and Molly’s desperate paths converge, and an unlikely friendship across generations and circumstances is formed. With it, Brooke and Molly will come to discover that what’s lost - and what’s found - can change in a heartbeat.

Great book if you can get past...
If you can get past the 152 references to the main character's mother's weight.
Even in the most epically intense moments she found time to remark how enormous her mother was. I get that part of character development includes a physical description but.... Really?
During a hug her thought is how huge hey mother felt. Many more examples that made me cringe for her mom, or I would have given the book a solid 5 stars. It really took away from the story.

Something different
My thoughts were all over the place with this book. Great great unique story line BUT I think it could have been executed better. The 2 main characters lacked so much back bone and it became annoying. The narration for Molly was awful, dragging, always sounding blah. The fact that Brooke never stood up to her awful mother made her so annoying also. It was too much to think that we were supposed to feel sorry for a 39 yr old grown women who had no job, no money and nothing to show for her life and no reason at all to be in that position. Too much poor me. Loved the story line but it could have been less boring.

Couldnt finish it
I rarely do reviews unless really like or dislike a book. Was the latter this time. I only got maybe a third way through and couldn’t take the narration or the slow story line any longer. Not one likable character in the bunch. Usually like this author but couldn’t stomach this one.

Protagonists are too similar
The story is written from two points of view: that of a single mom and that of a homeless teenager. They sound way too similar in their thought processes, way of speaking, and second-guessing themselves. Also, the two ladies who narrated the two voices sounded very similar. Would have been better if they had different voice pitch, or accent, or something. The story itself is sweet, and the protagonists are upright, honest people who are trying to do what is right. I liked that.

Important Story to Hear
This is an important story to hear, because unfortunately this is a reality for many youth. My son is gay, and I cannot imagine turning my back on my child. I think it is so sad that religious fanatics would allow their judgement to be clouded so severely. How do you choose religion over your family?

Not the best from this author .
Story went on and on. Hard to keep my interest. Have loved all books from this author except this one. Storylines and scenes needed shortened. Story too drawn out. Listened with Audible. Over pronuciation of Ts and Ds. The child only said Molly Molly the entire book!! I found myself mimicking her out of irritation. Surely a child of that age can speak more words! Skip this one and read Take Me With You. My all time favorite.

Catherine Ryan Hyde is an engaging writer
This story tugs at your heart and keeps you engaged. Catherine's writing covers many aspects of life with characters that you can relate to. She shows families that are in many phases of life and shows their vulnerability. This book covers homeless teens, single mothers and a few other aspects I'll let you find out for yourself. I will definitely read more books by this author. I encourage you to read this book.
