Description
Establish wise and loving limits that make a positive difference in your teen, in the rest of your family, and in you.
The teen years: relationships, peer pressure, school, dating, character. To help teenagers grow into healthy adults, parents and youth workers need to teach them how to take responsibility for their behavior, their values, and their lives.
From best-selling author and counselor Dr. John Townsend, Boundaries with Teens is the expert insight and guidance you need to help your teens take responsibility for their actions, attitudes, and emotions and gain a deeper appreciation and respect both for you and for themselves.
With wisdom and empathy, Dr. Townsend applies biblically based principles for the challenging task of guiding your children through the teen years. Using the same principles he used to successfully raise two teens, he shows you how to:
- Deal with disrespectful attitudes and impossible behavior in your teen
- Set healthy limits and realistic consequences
- Be loving and caring while establishing rules
- Determine specific strategies to deal with problems both big and small
Discover how boundaries make parenting teens better today!
Plus, check out the Boundaries family collection of books dedicated to key areas of life - dating, marriage, raising young kids, and leadership. Workbooks and Spanish editions are also available.

Got Teens?
This is going to make you feel hopeful as a parent. It has good advise and helps me to understand what it was like being a teen and how to deal with that situation without losing it.

Practical and Effective
Following the advice in this book will not only keep your teens on the right track, but force you to be an adult and deal with you own demons. Well worth the time and a good book to read periodically.

Difference maker
Extremely helpful in understanding teens and proding you to recall your own issues while you were a teen. This, along with advice given, help you to deal with your child in more realistic ways than you might have before putting all these points of view together. Advice given is well thought out, gleaned from experience, and based in Christianity. The book is not a Christian book, however, he makes no effort to hide reminding you the way God wants us to raise our children. Excellent book, a must for all parents. I wish I found this when my child was headed to middle school.

Lots of great ideas but too religious
The author provides many practical suggestions.
There were a lot of suggestions to pray and references to Jesus. This may not be applicable or inspiring to readers. Worst case, readers may find it offensive.

I am a youth worker, and this book is a fantastic guide to understanding and dealing with teenagers. A must have for any parent. The religious overtones are obvious, but hey - They Work!!

It was ok...mostly commonsense
Too many religious/bible references for me. Controlling kids with religion shouldn't be an option, but look at the world...

A MUST FOR PARENTS!!!
An absolute excellent tool to understand what happened to your child, and how to handle it, when it turned overnight to something you don't know anymore. Very helpful - An absolute MUST for Parents of Teens, and Pre-Teens in my opinion!
Very detailed and touches most of the problems parents and adolescence will face.
Thanks a lot Dr. Townsend

Meh
What did you like best about Boundaries with Teens? What did you like least?
There are some great ideas for how to handle situations and how to look at things from a different perspective. However, this book seems very idealistic and a little preachy. I am a christian but I don't need to be preached to about the ideal that God gave us. If I'd known that is what this was, I wouldn't have purchased it.
Was Boundaries with Teens worth the listening time?
meh
Any additional comments?
You can't just level headedly talk to your teen and expect them to say, "Oh, yea...I get it." I kind of felt like that is what this book tried to sell. Not realistic.

Too much God...
What disappointed you about Boundaries with Teens?
The use of religion and requiring a believe in God.
What was most disappointing about John Townsend’s story?
He bases his beliefs and advice on asking for Gods help.
What does Jay Charles bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Strength and conviction.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Some of the psychology is quite relevant to the topic but the religious quotes and directives make it very difficult to listen and stay focused on the topic.
Any additional comments?
The description given by audible should include the information that the book is based on a strong religious belief.
