    Description

Forbidden passions have shaped and haunted the Dollanganger family since their first novel - Flowers in the Attic - debuted 40 years ago. Now discover how twisted the roots of the family tree truly are and witness the family’s origins as the result of one wild and complicated relationship. In this evocative and thrilling tale from New York Times best-selling author V.C. Andrews, see Corrine Dixon as a young girl and discover the fascinating family history of the Dollanganger clan.

Two generations before Corinne Foxworth locked her children in an attic, her grandmother, a gorgeous young girl named Corrine Dixon, is swept away by the charms of rich, sophisticated, and handsome Garland Foxworth. After discovering that Corrine is pregnant, Garland does what appears to be the honorable thing and marries her in a huge ceremony on the luxurious Foxworth Hall grounds. Both families fervently overlook the pregnancy, happy for a suitable resolution. Now the mistress of a labyrinthine estate, Corrine discovers that nothing is what is seems. Garland is not the man once captivated by her charms, and she’s increasingly troubled by his infatuation with memories of his departed mother. Can Corrine survive this strange new life? Or is her fate already sealed?

Explore the origins of the legendary Dollanganger family in this pause-resisting, gripping Gothic thriller.

    *

First of all when I bought this book I thought it was going to be about the Corrine from the books. Now THAT would have been a story. Literally nothing happens in this one. It's just the story of how Malcom's parents met and got married. That's it. And Corrine's narrative is just annoying. This book had nothing to do with the children in the attic. She never even visits the attic. Only talks about it once. This book was a waste of a credit.

    Predictable

I felt like I'd heard this story before and predicted every turn of events. Disappointing. The Oedipus complex storyline is played out.

    Blech

I read almost all of the V.C. Andrews books as a teen and thought this might be a fun distraction. Boy was I wrong. Horribly written, clunky, boring and obviously written by a male pen. I couldn’t even get past the first chapter. What a waste of a credit. I will be canceling my trial and sticking with the library where I can listen to shitty books for free.

Get ready to find out how it all began!

This is the prequel to how Flowers in the Attic came to be. Who would have thought it started so far back. This book had my attention and I’m ready to move on to the next one. Enjoy!

One giant YAWN of a story!

Don't know why I got excited about a "new" Dollanganger novel....Neidermeyer will NEVER be VCAndrews.

Loved listening, ready for the next one!

Couldn't stop listening, never dissatisfied with a V.C. Andrews book. All the twists and turns you'd expect from V.C. Andrews but with a 19th century feel. It felt new and exciting listening to this story and it can definitely hold its own.

I love the dollanganger series and it's a treat to be able to learn more of the foxworth family's history.

    Stick to the original

I was disappointed I love the old VC Andrews stories. I have not found any of the written lately under her name any good. This is my favorite and all of the books including the diaries have been a waste of time.

    Boring

This book was definitely a waste of a credit. I listen while working and kept forgetting I had an audio book playing in my ear. I struggled to get through it.
