À propos de ce contenu audio
This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
A stranger walks into the Coach and Horses at Iping in the middle of a snowstorm, wrapped to the eyes, and takes a room he never leaves by daylight. He pays in gold, keeps his door locked, and speaks to nobody. When the landlady finally sees what is under the bandages, the village decides it has a lunatic, a criminal, or worse on its hands.

What it has is Griffin, a physicist who discovered how to make living tissue perfectly transparent and then discovered he could not make it opaque again. What follows is not a monster story but something colder: a very intelligent man with no face, no money and no way back, working his way down a ladder of crimes in a Sussex village because there is nothing else left that he can do. H G Wells keeps the horror domestic and small, which is what makes it stick - a chair that moves by itself, footprints that stop in the middle of the snow, a voice from an empty room asking to be left alone.

Published in 1897 and still the best account anyone has written of what a man might become once ordinary limits stop applying to him, The Invisible Man is funny for about forty pages and then stops being funny at all.

This unabridged recording keeps the villagers' voices and Griffin's cold, impatient monologue exactly as Wells wrote them.
