Dan & Eric Debate the Future of the DC Universe
When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, they promised fans something the franchise desperately needed: a fresh start, a cohesive universe, and a long-term plan that would finally give DC a legitimate competitor to Marvel.
The announcement of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters generated plenty of excitement, with ambitious plans for Superman, Supergirl, Batman, Swamp Thing, The Authority, Booster Gold, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, Waller, and Creature Commandos.
But now that we've seen several of those projects come to life, it's time to ask the question: Has James Gunn actually saved the DCU?
Dan and Eric break down what Gunn originally promised versus what audiences have actually received. From the arrival of Creature Commandos and the new Superman to Peacemaker, Supergirl, Lanterns, and Clayface, the guys examine whether the new DCU is living up to its ambitious introduction.
But what about the projects that initially generated so much excitement? Where are The Authority, Booster Gold, Paradise Lost, Waller, and The Brave and the Bold? Have some of Gunn's biggest promises quietly fallen by the wayside, or is this simply what happens when building a massive cinematic universe?
Is the new DCU developing into the interconnected franchise fans were promised, or are we simply getting a collection of individual DC projects without a clear destination?
Dan and Eric debate the hits, the misses, the delays, the questionable decisions, and whether James Gunn deserves credit for turning DC around.
The big question: Did James Gunn save DC, or are we still waiting for him to deliver on the promise?
