In the Whispering Woods, Pip was already searching for the ideal materials before the dew had dried on the ferns, his small nose twitching the whole time. He required materials that could float on the wind yet were sturdy enough to transport an adventurous young squirrel to the shore. The whispering oaks, the forest's oldest trees, were his first stop. He painstakingly picked out the biggest, toughest leaves he could findleaves the size of dinner plates, painted in brilliant tones of crimson and goldthe vivacious leaves of fall. This is his wing shape, optimized to catch the wind. Softly, he rolled them up and slipped them into a grass bag that he put over his shoulder. Then, he required a backdrop. Hoping across the bubbling brook, Pip ran to the weeping willows. For testing purposes, he selected long, pliable twigs and delicately bent them in his paws. Just like the skeleton of his incredible flying machine, they had to be flexible without snapping. He neatly bundled them together, his fluffy tail quivering with delight.©2026 Liam Adams (P)2026 Liam Adams
