There's a trapdoor in the hallway at school. It's been there since he was seven, and he's told everyone he isn't scared of it. Now he's in grade four, and it's time to prove it. What's underneath is not a basement. It's a tunnel with a fork in it, a signpost pointing toward somewhere called Monsterville, and a castle full of vampire bats that might not be real. Some of the traps are holograms. Some of them aren't. Telling the difference means running headfirst into the walls to find out. Between him and the way home are a graveyard, a drawbridge, a pyramid, a blind mummy who can only follow sound, and a monster two storeys tall who does not give up. He has no food, no plan, and a bad habit of saying the wrong thing out loud at the worst possible moment. He is going to say "this is it, I'm dead meat" more times than he'd like to admit.©2026 Jason Goldlist (P)2026 Jason Godlist
