For fans of The Girl Who Drank the Moon and The Last Cuentista comes a magical adventure of friendship, family, and the lengths we go to save what matters most.
Every morning, twelve-year-old Lucía scales the massive Sombra Trees that shroud Coquí Island in darkness, searching for the rare medicinal fruit that will save her grandmother's deteriorating health. Luckily, Lucía has an advantage: Malo, her sharp-tongued parrot with an even sharper sense of smell.
But Malo's bright feathers and big mouth also make him an easy target. When he's stolen at the marketplace by a mysterious boy, Lucía and her cousin Víctor follow the thief high up into the dangerous canopy. There they find the unimaginable: a magical, hidden oasis, and a secret about the Sombra Trees that could change life on the island for everyone.
The cousins aren’t alone, though—shady figures with sinister intentions have followed them from the market. With danger closing in, can Lucía and Víctor find Malo, save the oasis from those who seek to exploit it, and escape with their lives?
