The lone shoe that forced investigators to reopen Gina's case
In this episode, we follow the sequence of events from Gina Hansen’s October disappearance to the discovery that changed the search: a size seven-and-a-half tan flat found standing on a graded county road. What does a shoe, a missing key fob, and a routine volunteer shift tell us about her disappearance?
Person: Gina Hansen
Date: October 4-19, 2011
Location: County Road Nine spur; Dellhart Regional Hospital parking Row C
Status: Missing
Witness lead: Greyhound sighting (October 6)
- Gina missed a Tuesday Food Shelf shift for the first time in six years after driving her daughter to the ER and parking in Row C.
- Her car was found parked with purse on the seat and phone on the floorboard; the key fob was missing.
- Investigators treated the scene initially as a voluntary walkaway and pursued hospital and transit leads.
- A credible witness reported seeing a woman matching Gina’s description boarding a Greyhound on October 6; that lead later collapsed.
- On October 19 at 6:10 a.m., a plow operator found a size 7½ tan flat shoe standing upright on a frost-hardened stretch of County Road Nine spur.
