Some agreements should never be remembered.
When a body appears in the abandoned district known as the Shattered Ward, City Watch Investigator Rowan Mirewood is called to investigate what should have been an impossible crime: a man seen walking the streets days after his body is found in a state of stasis.
The contract etched in the frame of an ancient mirror without reflections pulls Rowan closer to the source but further from himself.
As Rowan and his partner Joren descend into the hidden architecture beneath Evermere, they uncover evidence of older agreements buried beneath the city itself. These contracts were written with entities that do not think like humans and never truly forget a debt.
But every use of Rowan’s forbidden Echo costs him pieces of his memory, and something within the mirrors has started noticing the things he leaves behind.
In Evermere, even reflections can inherit an oath, and some doors were sealed for a reason.
Can Rowan find the solution, or will he get drawn further into the depths of the magic that was used to create the power of these contracts?
