Western Australia plans to shut down Collie's coal mines and power stations by 2030, replacing them with renewable energy and gas. A report by the Australian Energy Market Operator shows a power surplus for the next three years, but warns that after 2030, insufficient power will be generated to meet growing demand without further investment in renewables. Reaching net zero by 2050 would require 97 million solar panels and 12,000 wind turbines across WA.
