For Max and Jeff, it started with a record.
The original Mad Dogs & Englishmen album. Tour poster inside. Tour book from the original run.
A piece of history hanging on the wall.
So when the chance came in 2003, Max did it right.
He had Leon sign it first.
Leon was proud to autograph it. No hesitation. No attitude. Just signed it.
Then they went to Joe Cocker.
Joe signed it. Didn’t even look at what he was signing. Just did it and moved on.
Now here’s where it gets interesting.
The people who met Joe first and got his signature, then walked over to Leon?
Leon wouldn’t sign it.
“No way.”
Wouldn’t touch it.
That’s how real that tension was. This wasn’t gossip. It wasn’t legend. It was right there in front
of you at the table.
And the wild part?
Leon would sign anything, anytime, for anyone. Max had done plenty of Leon shows. That day
was different. That item was different.
Some feuds never really leave the room.
Mad Dogs & Englishmen wasn’t just a tour. It was history. And in 2003, you could still feel it.
