 Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly, and welcome to the Vermont Weather Podcast. It's Saturday, February 21st. Folks, winter is loading up for one last haymaker. Southern Vermont is about to get walloped, while the Northeast Kingdom got sunshine and a free pass today. A 20 degree temperature swing across the state. Classic Vermont. Here's the deal. Down south around Bennington, you're sitting at 32 degrees right now, but it feels like 19 with that wind. Light snow dusted things this afternoon. That's just the appetizer. The real storm rolls in Sunday at 5 P.M. By Monday morning, you're looking at 3 to 7 inches. Gusts to 35 miles an hour. Near whiteout conditions in the Greens. A Winter Storm Watch is up, and you'll want to charge your devices tonight. Wet, heavy snow plus wind equals power outages. Head north into central Vermont. Burlington hit 34 degrees today, actually above our February normal of 29. You dodge the worst of it. A slight chance of snow showers Sunday, then maybe an inch or two Monday. Manageable stuff. Now up in the Kingdom. Newport, you won the weather lottery today. Sunshine and 34 degrees with barely a breeze. But tonight your thermometer plummets to 7 degrees. That's the kind of cold where your nostrils stick together. If you're driving south Sunday night, don't. I 91 and Route 7 will be treacherous. Here's your heads up for the week ahead. Tuesday brings an Arctic blast. Highs struggling to reach 20 degrees. Wind chills near minus 15. Wednesday, a second system drops light snow statewide with some wintry mix in the valleys. Thursday and Friday we finally warm up near 36 degrees, but with rain and snow mixing. Feels like a mud season preview. One bright spot. We're gaining nearly 3 minutes of daylight each day.
