Rafe survived the fight with the renegade Wanderer, Rowle, but was unable to defeat him. As promised, Fate finds Rafe an apprentice. Fleeing just ahead of the military police, they ride into the night on Beast, Rafe's manticore-possessed Harley-Davidson. While Tess recuperates, Rafe begins her training, a long process that is interrupted time and time again by Rowle's machinations. Rafe knows he cannot defeat Rowle single handedly, but can he train Tess fast enough to prevent the on-set of Ragnarök?
