Andrew was born November 25, 1835, in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland making him 42 at the start of this journey round the world.
John Vandevort was roughly 40 years of age for this trip as well. He is typically referred to by the nickname of Vandy throughout the book. Vandy was a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and invested in the steel industry with Andrew Carnegie.
