Description

From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Thea Harrison comes the first in a new spellbinding trilogy....

Power can change a person....

For months, Molly Sullivan endures the inexplicable: electrical surges, car breakdowns, visions. She even wonders if she might be the cause...and wonders if she might be crazy. Then she discovers her husband has cheated on her. Again. Now Molly realizes she is a newly awakening witch and a woman pushed over the edge.

Revenge can shape a person....

Josiah Mason is a powerful witch and the leader of a secret coven with a shared goal: to destroy an ancient enemy who has ruined many lives. Josiah lost years to this man, and his sole focus is revenge. He’s prepared for every contingency - except encountering a beautiful new witch who understands nothing of the immense power building within her or the attraction she wields over him.

Danger can bring them together....

When divorcing her husband, Molly uncovers a dangerous secret he’s willing to kill to protect. She turns to Josiah for help, and they discover a connection between Molly’s husband and Josiah’s enemy.

As they work together, a spark ignites between them that threatens to become an inferno. But Molly is done compromising herself for any man, and Josiah’s mission is his top priority. And the enemy is cunning, cruel, and drawing ever closer.

As the danger escalates, so does the tension between them. Is a lasting relationship possible? Will either of them live long enough to try?

I enjoyed it buuuut...

First i would like to say that i have greatly enjoyed every single one of the Elder Race books. the Romance is always interesting and i love that the sub plots to the stories are always just as interesting as the main love plot. which is more often then not, not the case with other romance themed novels. American Witch is no exception to Thea's excellent story telling skills. If you are a fan of her other books you will likely be a fan of this book series as well. Reading good books is like listening to good music you can get lost in the melody or world you have immersed yourself in and it is difficult to point to a single moment as to what made the experience so good when it is the whole of the thing that really makes it worth reading or lististening to. However that is not the case for things that disrupt the experience. American Witch has a few discordant notes to it, IN MY OPINION, that disrupted the flow for me. 1. Her romance plots are a bit formulaic. they hate/dislike one another then they like on another. the guy is always more powerful more experienced. the gal is always willing to put up a token resistance til she is overwhelmed by his sheer hotness and falls in love with him. 2. they fall in love a little too quickly, it made sense and i could overlook it when most of her characters were Wyr. but the characters in this book are not . made a little weirder by the fact that the female lead goes from Very Unhappily married to sleeping with a guy she barely knows and doesn't like or trust rather quickly. 3. I get why the main female character doesn't want to get involved with the male characters vendetta and agree with it whole heatedly but i don't get why she would give an ultimatum to a guy who is trying to saves lives by taking on a very serious serial killer. nor why she then does the exact thing that she gave her lover an ultimatum for in the first place. makes her seem a bit wishy/washy and self centered. 4. This one is a bit iffy but until this point it has never come up that witches could extend their life spans and there have been Some witchyish character in previous books., Wicked, Moonshadow, Spellbinder and Oracle Moon. Though to be fair other than Wicked this is the first full blooded witch story, and Wicked was a short story. Still up to this book i was under the impression that witches aged like humans. Anyway besides these four little bumps i had a pretty good and smooth ride. Thank you Thea

P.S. While i doubt Thea Harrison will read this review i have to try. Any chance that we might get a book that has Phaedra as a Main i really like her.

Basically a Harlequin Romance with magic thrown in

Only finished because I am not a quitter. I was disappointed with the formula romance outline. No surprises.

A Bit Predictable, but not bad

Not a lot of surprises in the book. Molly was a bit annoying, and Josiah was predictable, hot/cold, blah blah.
Sophie Eastlake did an acceptable Job narrating but not fond of her ‘men’ voices. All sound pinched and pretty much the same.
I did finish the book, but had hoped for a little more witch magic and a little less sex.
All in all, I don’t feel this was a waste of a credit, it was a good book, just not a great book

Strong Realistic Sexy Older Woman

At last a story about an older woman. A witch suddenly comes into her powers AND is confused, conflicted, smart, honest and strong.

She makes decisions that make sense as well as let’s her crazy come out. The story is a great lead in to a series.

Oh, it’s realistic sexy

Can’t wait for the next one to come out.

Potential not realized!

The ideas in this book show promise but as a whole it just does not hang together. The timelines make no sense. The violence makes no sense. This book feels more like a draft with several different story arcs stuck together. This is the last Thea Harrison book I will purchase. I feel ripped off. I also feel offended that a character would go from 20 years of loyal wife though cheated on to being almost killed by her husband to sex with an unpleasant domineering man to pregnant and in love. Also, the magic aspect as a theme in the story did not make sense. Every bit of this is over the top, disconnected and ridiculous.

Amazing!!!

I expected to not like this book too much because it wasn't about the elder races. Thea is the queen of storytelling. I did think molly was a little naive but came to love her personality. I loved her and Josiah beginning and can't wait for the next story. This was a excellent book and I will listen to it again and again like I do all her books. I loved it.

Amazing! A must read!

This book was so enthralling from the first chapter to the last! If you’re browsing around trying to find a hook to fall into this is the one! I love that the characters are older more mature yet still evolving and becoming who they’re meant to be! Molly is such a strong woman in a very real way and handles everything with grace and good sense. She stands above the usual tropes and I love her for them!

OMG, This was Delicious!

I loved this audible! Thea, I don't know why you picked Sophie as your narrator, but what a delicious choice. It made me want to go and find everything she ever narrated. And, this story was romantic and sexy and adventurous. So perfect for Sophie's skills. Surely there is a Part 2? Thank You both for rocking my world!

woman growing into their true, authentic selves

enjoyed how she grew into her true self. deciding not to just meekly accept being mistreated by her family--that she deserved better, so that when a strong man came into her life, she was able to accept him and love him.

Not to my liking

I had high expectations for this book because I typically like Thea Harrison books, but I didn’t like this one. I thought it was pretty dry and the little bit of action and activity came at the very end. I also didn’t like the lead male character, He was pretty mean to Molly in my opinion. If you are looking for a good Thea Harrison book I would suggest the elder races series.
