Description

A car lies crashed below a Welsh mountain road. One of the young women inside it is dead, the other badly injured with no memory of who she is or what just happened. All she has is a bus pass showing her photograph and a name she doesn't recognize.

As she struggles to recover from her injuries, a startling revelation shatters everything she thought she knew, forcing her into an uneasy alliance with Detective Bronwen Pryce. With danger closing in from all sides, the two women must work together to uncover the truth - even if it kills them.

Her Best Yet - Highly Recommend

The raw power of the first books has been supplanted by clever, more sophisticated verbal gymnastics. I use the word "verbal" because this is a book that is best heard as a performance -- and Ms. Vincent is the perfect match. This is like the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for me, in that I can't really imagine reading it (as opposed to listening to it being performed). The dialogue cascades at you in a wonderful, spontaneous way. (Note the use of the present tense, a tricky bit of business!) I tend to read hard sci-fi, police procedurals and historical biographies. About 5 times a year I stumble on something that compels me to do a review. This is such a book. Don't read it if you can't deal with a lesbian as the lead detective -- do read it (even if you are a older straight male like me) if you are a person who really enjoys a fast-moving, involving mystery with a Manchester/Wales backdrop and an insightful self-awareness that is as enjoyable as it is character-rich. There....an entire paragraph, and not one word about the plot -- which you will just have to read for yourself.

Not in love, but definitely in like!

I'm a huge Cari Hunter fan, but I was expecting more from this book. The murder mystery of the book was fantastic, kept me on the edge of my seat!! I absolutely love the narrator! She has an amazing voice and never fails to schmooze my ears and senses. What I didn't like was the romance piece or severely lack there of one. Romance this was not. It all was fairly awkward and kind of a side note. I found myself wondering how did that happen with no lead up, lack of chemistry, and sort of anti climactic. The story would have been just the same with that bit, which says alot. Other than that, the rest of the book was good and still worth the credit!

Buy this audiobook!

This book is exciting from beginning to end. Cari Hunter knows how to write thrillers! I listened to this book non stop to the end. Nicola Victoria Vincent has such a way with European accents. It's like a gift! From the very first moments of this book I felt a sense of anticipation of what was going to happen. Most books are somewhat predictable in the "who done it" arena, but this one keeps you guessing until the end! Also, I don't fluff reviews for anyone or any reason. If it's great I say so. If it's not so great I say that too, just with less exuberance.

Loved it!

A story based on amnesia usually does not get my attention but if Cari Hunter writes a book I have to read it and then listen to it. I trust she will deliver a great story. Alias does not disappoint. In fact it is highly entertaining. I love the way she writes. Her dialogue and imagery are ridiculously appealing and Nicola Victoria Vincent's performance complements her work beautifully. The result is outstanding!

Wished there was more, but enjoyed it nonetheless.

I wanted more for each character I suppose. How "good" of a cop are they really? I wished there was greater interaction between all the named characters good and bad so I would at least truely believe the ending. Something deeper I guess. I would suggest it to another, solely on the angle to story took.

10 Stars!

Picked this up days after reading the Kindle version - as soon as it became available. The narration takes an already great book to another level. Not sure what else to say here. Cari Hunter does not disappoint. Neither does Nicola Victoria Vincent.

A new spellbinding story by Cari Hunter

The start feels like a punch to the gut following Alis´ confusion paired with amnesia when she jolts awake after a car accident in the middle of snowy Snowdonia. Painstaking slow memories and names come back to the injured, young woman. It becomes clear that Alis has been working under cover for the Manchester PD and the investigated place needs to keep their secrets at all cost, even not shying away from murder. On first glance the city and country cop ladies don´t seem to have much in common, but they are on the same wavelength when it comes to their job dedication and feeling for justice. As there seem other police officers involved in the whole mess, the two women have to investigate behind their commanding officers´ backs to unravle the truth.

Cari Hunter has, again, written a true page turner! The story is well structured and mulitlayered, grabbing and intrigueing you right from the start. I like her eye catching word play title and love her character development. Both Alis and Pryce come across so vividly and their reactions and dialoges so natural that you can visualiz them instantly. From their first meeting at the rescue site, over akward hospital visits to secret stakeouts one can feel how they grow closer and more trusting of each other. The solving of the case clearly is the main goal, so there is little time left for their growing attraction. Maybe in this action overloaded world Cari Hunter´s story feels too slow for many readers, but that is exactly what I love about it. The slow putting together all those puzzle pieces feels so realistic to me, only intensiving my story enjoyment.

Nicola Victoria Vincent has done a marverlous 8 hour narrationg job, giving each character, big and small, a perfect voice interpretation. I can imagine that because of all the local references, words and the strong accents this audio book may be a bit of a challange for non-native listeners. For me it felt like coming „home“ after having lived and worked in the West Midlands for some time and also often visited North-Wales. Nicola Victoria Vincent´s voice talent truely brings Alis and Pryce „alive“, letting us listeners feel their pain, confusion, fear and determination, making both heroines sound credible and natural. This audio book has all what it takes to become one of my all time repeatedly listening favorites! Simply wow!!!!
