Description

With Age of Myth, Age of Swords, and Age of War, fantasy master Michael J. Sullivan riveted listeners with a tale of unlikely heroes locked in a desperate battle to save mankind from extinction. Now comes the pivotal point. After years of warfare, humanity has gained the upper hand and pushed the Fhrey to the edge of their homeland, but no farther. Desperate to find a way to break the stalemate, the answer lies in the half-forgotten words of an ancient song.

Not all legends are of heroes, and not all myths are invented. And sometimes, when you’re desperate enough, you’ll believe in the inconceivable and even seek it out.

Half a book

As always I truly enjoy Michael J Sullivan’s books. Picks right up where the previous book in this series left off and I could not stop listening. Then it just stopped. I felt like I had read half a book. Really no conclusion. I wished I had waited until the next book came out and read as one. I suggest you do this. Ending-really no ending - very unsatisfying. That is why 4 stars not 5

Entirely a transition Novel

I love Michael J. Sullivan's novels. I Love Tim Gerard Reynolds Narrations, in this and his other projects. You should not red this book until the next one comes out..

I was really looking forward to both reading this book and hyping it by giving it a great review. I am unable to do that.

Unfortunately, this book never really got off the ground. there is a whole lot of what I would judge as important plot movement devices here but nothing ever comes to fruition. I kept waiting for one of these plot lines to go somewhere and accomplish something but none of them did.

Important characters started development arcs, The war progresses without accomplishing anything, and several hints are dropped about future developments, and then the book just stops.

I'm Absolutely positive that the next book is going to be stuffed to the gills with awesomeness, but this one seems to be just a setup for that.

With that warning delivered. The content of the book was fairly good, though not up to the author's usual standard. The characters, with very few exceptions are two dimensional. People do things without any real exposition as to why they would do that thing. People are either deliriously happy or riding on the horns of soul deep conundrums without any real shading. A lot of that is understandable of you have read previous novels in the series, but not really all that much within this book.

Usually, I have to fight to put down one of these books from this author, and I wanted to do so with this one. But I have to admit that I found it easy to do so whenever the real world intruded.

And Lastly, lest I neglect to give the big kudos where it is deserved. Tim Gerard Reynolds was awesome as always. seamless character transitions, strong differentiation, and powerful engagement styling.

Good book, but obviously unfinished

This book felt like a slap in the face. I love Michael Sullivan's books because every one of them before this has told a complete story. This one fails to do so and is obviously a cash grab, either by him or his publisher.

While Age of Legend is good, it's incomplete. I would say 2/3 complete at best. I don't know if Sullivan made the call or his publisher did, but this reeks of what Tor did with the middle books of Wheel of Time. I was listening to this book after having waited since 3-4 days after the completion of the last book, thought I was halfway through, started a six hour road trip and it ended half an hour in. I thought there had to be some mistake! Audible maybe didn't download the whole thing. Nope, this book is incomplete. It's a slap in the face for his long-time fans.

As far as the audiobook goes, Tim Gerard Reynolds is a fantastic voice actor. He speaks clearly and does some funny voices. He's not the best at imitating female characters, but his representation of their voices makes that all the better. For content, aside from the book being half-finished, I didn't walk away from this book thinking "I got a lot that wasn't in previous books." I did, however, like the (one) new character that had been introduced later. There's less Gifford, less Roan, less Suri, almost no Persephone, a little more Brin, and a LOT more Tesh. Overall, had this been a complete story, I would have genuinely enjoyed the book. The wise character introduced later, M, was well represented. Even with the little time spent on their story and purpose made me sympathize with M and empathize in my own way.

This book could have been excellent, but it's missing too much. I'm not even excited for the next book. I'm going to get it (I have the next two on pre-order and have since before this book came out), but I'm no longer looking forward to the next one with urgency and anticipation. I'll only read/listen when I feel the need to get closure. This book is a betrayal to your base Mr. Sullivan. Please don't release anything like it again. Go back to your excellent way of making each book a patch on a quilt, that is to say, an entire self-contained story and part of the greater whole all in one.

Incredibly Dissapointing

I have read the majority of Michael J. Sullivan books and have always been enthralled by them. But this was one of the biggest let downs I have had in a long time in a series. After waiting almost a year to pick the series back up from what was an incredible start, I can't even finish. The story is bouncing around all over the place, fast-forwarding multiple years in the turn of a page, and seems to have absolutely no cohesion to the previous storyline. I'm about halfway through and I am absolutely lost! I will most likely try to finish the book and hopes that the continuation of the series gets better.

Bit of an eye roller

I'm a Sullivan fan but Tim G is the only thing thing held this book together for me.

Age of Legend was easy to listen to, but this was easily the worst in series. Not a whole lot happens in this book other than previously cool characters disappointing you until something is about to happen.
It's kinda weird. I want to know what happens next, but I don't think I'd be upset if all the characters died in the beginning of the next book.

Disappointed

I’m will start by saying that I am a huge Sullivan fan. I have been waiting for this book for months and I read all of his books many times. That being said I felt like he let his fans down with this book. About half the way through I started thinking of this book like the middle books of the wheel of time. It doesn’t move anything in the story along more than a few chapters worth of information. I hope that the next book is better for the sake of the series and Sullivan’s reputation.

Age of Legend

Okay, I too am a Michael J Sullivan fan, but I agree with his other fans. Don't read this book until the next in the series. You will be very disappointed. I too would like to know what Mike and or his publisher were thinking. I was so disappointed when this book ended "mid scene" so to speak, and they expect us to wait another two years and pay another $25. At this rate it will probably take another for or five more books to finish the series. I couldn't believe it ended when it did! I'm tired of paying $100 on a book when all four books should have been a single. I'm done with this series. Tim Gerard Reynolds was at his best as usual. I love Michael J. Sullivan, but can no longer support this way of publishing. Very disrespectful to his fans. Read the series that includes the Crown Tower and the Heir of Novron. You will definitely enjoy them much more.

Where’s the rest?

I’m a huge fan of MJS. His stories are just wonderful. Yet this book ended right as it got off the ground. This would have been Part 1 in any other epic fantasy book, a mere 14.5 hours of read time.

I and my family were so excited for this book and I was the first one to read it. Two days later I unfortunately had to relay the information that is consistent in the reviews that you might as well wait for the next book. I’m not even sure Audible should’ve taken an entire credit from me for this.

The story line is great and did not disappoint. I just wish he would’ve finished the book before charging me for it.

Preposterous

To tell the truth, I was enjoying this series of books when I came to a point in the story where I couldn't go on. I realize that I need to suspend disbelief to a certain degree when reading fiction, but the characters also need to act logically to assist with this. Mr. Sullivan has asked us to believe that a young person (being the sole hope of survival for the human race) who has learned multiple languages and can manipulate the ethereal forces of the world, just surrender to the enemy for no plausible reason. By the way, she also witnessed terrible atrocities and cruelty committed by the same folks she is surrendering to. I guess it was all Mike could think of to extend the series. Taken with enough teenage angst to power a japanese high school anime, the tale becomes unpalatable.
I have an idea for the author; make your books one hour long. You would make 14 times as much money.

Another wonderful read

I got through it so fast I was upset at how long I have to wait for the next book. I loved every bit of it, keeps you on edge until the last bit.

it just gets better and better

I cannot believe that the previous books of this series have been toped, but Micheal J. Sullivan has done it again. This is epic and a must read/hear for all fantasy fans!
Also Tim Gerald Reynolds is once again fantastic.
