In a medieval Norwegian village, at a time when Christianity has just begun to replace the Old Ways, a young woman named Skera is accused of murdering her sister and the cruel priest who raised them.
Hunted and alone, she flees into the shadow of the forest in search of Valdalla, a reclusive witch who still practices the ancient arts, and who agrees to take her on as her apprentice.
But as Skera’s prowess in the Old Ways grows, so does the pull she feels toward a magic that's forbidden. A darkness that could undo them. A spell that could bring back her sister.
