Riveting Psychological Thriller
Highly recommended.
I found 'A Nearly Normal Family' because the NYT recommended it as one of the best summer reads. I wasn't disappointed. As a parent, it's a chilling read. We think we know our kids and we believe our lives are normal, but truth is subjective, isn't it? Loved the story. And the narration is excellent.

Rather slow moving
On the positive side this is a believable story with credible characters, many of whom are unlikeable! The slow revelation of each character’s personality is well done. The author manages to swing our sympathies by presenting each character’s point of view in different chapters. However I found it extremely slow moving, and increased the narration speed to 2x.
The narrators are excellent, with the exception of the female narrator’s odd pronunciation of ‘book’ as ‘berk’ and ‘good’ as ‘gerd’.

Awesome...
Eine Wahnsinnsstory...mit unglaublichen Wendungen...einfach großartig. Spannend und unterhaltsam vom Anfang bis zum Ende. Die Sprecher sind perfekt.

A bit over the top
Thrilling storyline, interesting topic and psychological background but especially the second half of the novel is quite melodramatic in its depiction of the parent child relationship. Very good speakers, though.

Drama of unlikeable characters
How did the author manage to write more than 100 chapters out of a simple drama? Well, by dragging the story out full of repetitions. The characters are unlikeable, especially the spoiled child. There is trully no element of suprise or thrill.

Typisch skandinavisch!
Wie so oft bei skandinavischen Krimis schaut man auch hier in die Tiefen menschlicher Abgründe. Interessant fand ich die unterschiedlichen Perspektiven der 3 Hauptdarsteller, wie sie die selben Dinge erleben und doch ganz unterschiedlich interpretieren. Wie weit ist jeder bereit zu gehen, um das was ihm lieb und wichtig ist zu schützen? Oder ist es wichtiger den Schein nach außen zu wahren? Ich fand es sehr spannend und toll gelesen!

Durchschnittlich
Teilweise, besonders am Anfang, recht langatmig. Der Spannungsbogen ist relativ flach. Am Ende wird es etwas interessanter. Weiterempfehlen würde ich das Buch nicht.

but not totally bad, if you do not want to concentrate much, if you mis some parts, you will still be able to follow
