Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Description
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes the next novel in her Blood and Ash series....
Is Love Stronger Than Vengeance?
A Betrayal...
Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.
A Choice...
Casteel Da’Neer is known by many names and many faces. His lies are as seductive as his touch. His truths as sensual as his bite. Poppy knows better than to trust him. He needs her alive, healthy, and whole to achieve his goals. But he’s the only way for her to get what she wants - to find her brother Ian and see for herself if he has become a soulless Ascended. Working with Casteel instead of against him presents its own risks. He still tempts her with every breath, offering up all she’s ever wanted. Casteel has plans for her. Ones that could expose her to unimaginable pleasure and unfathomable pain. Plans that will force her to look beyond everything she thought she knew about herself - about him. Plans that could bind their lives together in unexpected ways that neither kingdom is prepared for. And she’s far too reckless, too hungry, to resist the temptation.
A Secret...
But unrest has grown in Atlantia as they await the return of their Prince. Whispers of war have become stronger, and Poppy is at the very heart of it all. The King wants to use her to send a message. The Descenters want her dead. The wolven are growing more unpredictable. And as her abilities to feel pain and emotion begin to grow and strengthen, the Atlantians start to fear her. Dark secrets are at play, ones steeped in the blood-drenched sins of two kingdoms that would do anything to keep the truth hidden. But when the earth begins to shake, and the skies start to bleed, it may already be too late.
Commentaires
"Picking up after an explosive cliff-hanger, Stina Nielsen narrates a captivating fantasy romance in which a young woman struggles to overcome betrayal.… Nielsen's immersive performance blends romance and action for an entrancing listen."

Good... but way too much sex
I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 3 only because the storyline is good... but damn, she could have cut about four hours off the run time without the repetitive and overly detailed sex scenes. I don't mind a couple steamy scenes like we had in the first book, but when there are well over half a dozen and each one uses the exact same language over and over, you can just go with "..." and we all get the point. I started skipping them halfway through so I didn't have to listen to the narrator talk about "her very core" or "that bundle of nerves" one more time.

This series owns my soul
I've been living in this series for an entire week, Jennifer Armentrout was able to transport me into the book. I felt everything. Also, my heart dropped at the end. I felt so many emotions that Poppy (the main character) wouldn't be able to process them herself. I'll just be dying until the next book comes out in 2021. Also, the narrator? Beautiful. Stina Nielsen is amazing.

Best sequal to a series i've read in a long while
Everything good from the first book turned up to eleven. It's not perfect , no book can ever be perfect for everyone, but it definitely hits all of it's best qualities and expands on them. The chemistry between Cas and Poppy is beyond good i don't know if it's the writing , the narrator, or both but every time they were together every thing was awesome, and when they weren't together i actually missed their banter. I have not always been a fan of this author's work. Teen drama being more grating for me than entertaining, but i think she hit a nice tone with this series. Still some relationship drama, but in a way that makes sense and is usually resolved with some good old fashioned communication. I admit with the way the last book ended i kind of expected this book to be more annoying than anything else. but nope it turned out great. Lol it was a superb distraction from the real world. the world building continues to be quite fascinating. The only thing i would really nitpick about, was that for a girl who wanted to be an independent warrior type she spends almost no time training. and a LOT of time alone fretting about Cas's feelings while he actually did Princely stuff. Felt a bit Disney princess..ish, likes to talk about being all important and stuff but is never actually shown doing more than worrying about whether their prince REALLY loves them or not. Also i really really REALLY want the next book, cliffhangers are not fair, and those who use them are sadistic sociopaths. lol

Way too much filler
This book reads like a college student wrote it, trying every trick to stretch a 3-page paper into a 5-page paper.
The plot goes absolutely nowhere for long periods of time. Constantly saying the same things in 25 different ways.
If the editors cut out the insanely repetitive rabbit hole of Poppy’s thoughts (that add absolutely nothing to the storyline) maybe we’d have a decent book. A big maybe.

Wow, a lot of sex
I read the first of this series and really enjoyed it. I was excited when this came out, but I haven't been able to finish it. I didn't expect so much sex. I don't even mind sex scenes in books. There was sex in the first one, but this one feels like every other scene is a very detailed sex scene. It's just boring. Also, I feel like the plot could've gone a lot farther with this interesting world they've set up, but instead you're kinda stuck around towns or castles while the main character whines about loving or not loving what's his face, or over thinking everything

Entertaining but tiring
I love fantasy romance and often get quite attached to the characters. The first book was very entertaining, but man this second book has been so excessively detailed and repetitive that I won’t have any issues detaching to the story when it’s over, I’m ready for it. The fact that we all know what’s going to happen and know Penelope’s true feelings LONG before she comes to the realization is tiringggg. And her violent tendencies are verging sociopathy lol...🤷♀️

The cliffhanger is killing me! I can't wait for book 3 to be released. It had the right amount of adventure, romantic tension and sex. The only annoyance is that Poppy can get lost in her thoughts, which can be a tad bit annoying.

A little disappointed
Overall I like this book/series, but I was somewhat disappointed. Poppy drove me up the wall for most of this book. On one hand her brattyness and endless whiney internal monologue of boo hoo, he's done bad things in his dark and stormy past. On the other, gasp! He's so pretty! Nevermind about whatever legitimate concern we were discussing, such as that pesky kidnapping and forced marriage issue. It did pick up in the second half, and I was quite enjoying it. Then the cliffhanger ending was awfully anticlimactic. I probably would have waited to read this until book three came out if I had known.

After the amazing first book the second book got even better.
Introducing more characters and new lands with adventures travels while fighting for true love and overcome misunderstandings. The story line is amazing with deep settings around the main characters and detailed back flashs into the their past. Their love story evolves and are met with many prejudice and stereotypes. The story is dotted with twist and turn that keeps you engaged until the end. Ending with a major cliffhanger that lets you yearning for the next book in this fantasy series. Still a must for every fantasy fan.

5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Now we come to the second part after the end of the first part was already terrific, we only get more of it here. I think the second part is much better than the first part and I also liked Poppy more here. Because in the first part I had problems finding a bond with the characters, but that has changed for me. The book surprised and shocked me at the same time because many things happened that I didn't expect. I am particularly fascinated by the story of who Poppy is now or what kind of specialty she represents. Even if I found the love story to be a good thing, sometimes it's a bit too kinky for my taste, but on the whole I like them both together a lot. I also liked the supporting characters like Kieran a lot and also who we got to know. Overall, I was positively surprised how much I like the book and can hardly wait to read more. All in all I had a lot of fun with the story and for me it was definitely a highlight in November and I can't wait to read part 3 next year after what happened and because a lot is still so unclear.
