He was perfect. Denim blue eyes, a dazzling smile. And he hadn’t sent me a picture of his junk. Which is about as rare, these days, as a dodo. When Sloane met Myles, everything fell into place. He loved a martini almost as much as she did, shared her passion for four-cheese pizzas, and made her laugh harder than any episode of Friends. She’d found 'The One' at last, and she could finally delete Tinder, forgetting all those waste-of-space men she’d never have to date again. But then she finds out that Myles has a secret. A very big one.
Description
Fans and critics alike raved over USA Today best-selling author Sally Thorne’s smash hit debut novel, The Hating Game - which sold in over 20 countries. Now she’s back with an unforgettable romantic comedy about a twin sister and brother struggling over an inheritance - and the sexy best friend who comes between them.
Crush: a strong and often short-lived infatuation, particularly for someone beyond your reach....
If Darcy Barrett hadn’t met her dream man when she was eight years old, the rest of the male population wouldn’t be such a let-down. No one measures up to Tom Valeska, aka the best man on Earth, not in looks, brain, or heart. Even worse is the knowledge that her twin brother Jamie saw him first, and claimed him forever as his best friend.
Tom’s off limits and loyal to her brother, 99 percent. One percent of Tom has had to be enough for Darcy, and her adoration has been sustained by his shy kindness. And if she’s honest, his tight t-shirts.
Now Darcy’s got three months left to get her life together, before her twin insists on selling the tumble-down cottage they inherited from their grandmother. By night, she’s working in a seedy bar, shooting down lame pickups from bikers. By day, she’s sewing underwear for her best friend and wasting her award-winning photography skills on website shots of pens and novelty mugs. She’s enjoying living the messy life, and a glass of wine or 10… until that one night, when she finds a six-foot-six perfect package on her porch.
Tom’s here, he’s bearing power tools - and he’s single for the first time in a decade.
As a house flipper extraordinaire, Tom has been dispatched by Jamie to give the cottage a drastic facelift that will result in a ton of cash. Darcy doesn’t appreciate Tom’s unsentimental approach to knocking down walls, and he really, really doesn’t approve of her current burnout boyfriend. They can’t be in the same room together without sparks flying - and it’s not the faulty wiring. One bedroom wall separates them at night, and even that’s looking flimsy.
Will Tom ever see Darcy as anything other than a little-sister obstacle to get around? And can she stand up to her most formidable opponent - her twin? This time around, she’s determined to make Tom Valeska 99 percent hers, and he’s never managed to say no to her yet…

Unfortunately, Not worth the wait
The fact that I had this book in my wish list for months makes it all the more disappointing. I was really looking forward to the sophomore release to the "Hating Game" by Sally Thorne but this book fell short of expectations. The characters had few redeeming qualities and it read very immature and contrived. I found myself looking for the next book and not hearing large passages without missing anything interesting.

Different Direction
First, don't go into this expecting a The Hating Game. I see many reviews making the comparison, but I think it is unfair to expect an author to stay in a box - there are just too many ideas out there and directions to explore to just recycle the same story.
That being said, I have mixed feelings about this book. I LOVE Sally Thorne's voice. She has such a witty way with words which definitely helps makes this story flow - which it needed at times. I found some parts repetitive and the beginning was a little slow, but her unique voice kept me going. I also like - as in it's my cat nip - the whole brother's best friend trope so there was that, too. And Tom is a very likeable character.
I have to admit, a couple of times Darcy was quick to excuse terrible behavior by those closest to her, and it did bug me. Also, I did not like the brother, Jamie, at all. I've seen a few comments on social media asking for his book - that would be a big pass for me.
As a whole, though, it was a good story.
For the narration, at times I had a difficulty telling whether something was inner dialog, or actually said aloud by the character. I think this is in part to the fact that it seems there is so much inner monologue going on throughout.

So dissapointing
I had a lot of great expectations for this book, even pre ordered it. I LOVED The Hating Game, and not just because of the story line but because I loved the clever, funny, cute way Sally Thorne wrote it. This book was dissapointing from the start. The writing was too corny, the plot was really odd and I COULD NOT STAND the main character. It was all "too much". I almost quit listening a quarter of the way through. I hope Sally does better in her next novel...

Disappointed
Sally Thorne's 'The Hating Game' was my secret pleasure when it first came out, so of course I eagerly awaited this book to arrive on Audible's virtual shelves.
In short, it is dismal. The main character is so thoroughly unlikable, I simply couldn't finish the book. She is mean, petulant, petty, and whiny. I searched for any quality that would make me care about her plight, to try and understand the way she behaves - basically I gave her every benefit of the doubt. Ultimately it was a lost cause.
The writing is shallow and predictable, moving at a snails pace as our protagonist undermines herself, her best interests, and the ones of those around her at every turn.
Do yourself a favor, don't waste a credit on this one. Instead, if you haven't already, spend it on 'The Hating Game'.

I Really Didn't Like It
I was excited to listen to this book because I really enjoyed "The Hating Game," but this one just didn't measure up for me. The author is very talented and I do enjoy her writing, but I found these characters to be unlikable and there just wasn't much of a story. The narration was kind of meh too, even though I have liked this narrator reading other books. I managed to finish this one (just barely) but when there turned out to be a bonus chapter at the end I just had to turn it off.

Sadly, disappointed....
After ‘The Hating Game,’ I was really looking forward to this book! From the first few minutes until the very end I kept waiting for it to get better, and it never really did. Like others, I didn’t love the narrator and I felt like the plot could’ve been interesting, but just ended up being kind of weird. Also, the main character’s intense sexual thoughts, feelings & ‘mind-reading’ ended up being weird, instead of fun. Just too much.

Inside Darcy Barrett's Brain
I love Sally Thorne's brain... and her writing style..... and her sense of humor.
So I've read some reviews comparing this with The Hating Game, but you just can't compare them. They both have wit, humor, and a fun slow burn, but otherwise they're very different books and you just have to love them for their own merits.
Darcy is smart, sassy, vulnerable, and lives life on the edge. Tom is steady and reliable. They're part of a triangle -- the 3rd part is Darcy's twin, Jamie. Jamie and Tom are best friends. Darcy and Tom have loved each other since they were 8 but never got together. Many years later they are thrown together while renovating Darcy's grandmother's cottage.
I loved being inside Darcy's brain. I loved watching her learn what makes Tom tick. And the narrator Jayme Mattler did a wonderful job!

Loved the book but not the narration
The book is everything I wanted from a new Sally Thorne. I had it preordered for kindle and audio. Sadly the audio did not live up to snuff. The narrator had zero inflection. You couldn't tell if what was being said was something the character said out loud or just thought. I gave up on it and just read it. Worth the time to read. Please read it! But not a fan of the Audio. A shame since the Narrator for The Hating Game was so fantastic.

Such a Disappointment
I'm always down for the underdog and wanted to like this book. I had high hopes, but the characters are just not that interesting. The story takes place in a very finite space and time, which would hard press the best of storylines to deliver. This story failed miserably. I made it a little less than halfway through and could not bring myself to listen to another minute of DB's trying-too-hard-to-be-clever droning. What a disappointment this book was.

Very boring, never funny
I really loved the witty dialogues of Sally Thornes first book. So when finally the 2nd came out I bought it. But what a waste of money: story was too simple to be told for hours, the speaker had not a very female voice I was never sure who was talking and the worst: never, ever funny nor witty nor surprising. Just boring. Pity!!

Undoubtfully sexy storytelling
Well, It's not big literature, but it has other qualities ;-). Like in her first book I like Sally Thorne's female characters. They are self confident and always know a perfect bitchy response that sparks up the room and heats up passion. Finally not again these endless depressing thoughts of female protagonists on age, food and too much weight!
These persons - men and women - have other problems to deal with, whether it's Lucy, Joshua, Darcy, Tom, Jamie or Truly and it's authentic how they are described.
So I like most the combination of passion and good storytelling! Why not make it a film? Please, women are longing for it!
