Lion of War

In ancient Israel, at the crossroads of the great trading routes, a mercenary named Benaiah is searching for a new beginning. He has joined a band of outcasts led by a warlord named David, who follows the mysterious Hebrew God. Their ranks are filled with bitter, ruthless men–some bound by loyalty to David, others lured by the spoils of conquest. To the desperate Israelites on the frontier they secretly protect, they are known as "mighty men."

After years of crippling civil war, the northern tribes ask David, king of Judah, to make a covenant of protection with them. But near the Great Sea, the Philistine empire has raised a massive army to strike while Israel is divided and weak. David's army is scattered, drought is ravaging the land, and whispers of betrayal haunt David’s own camp. Eleazar, son of Dodai, has been a loyal follower of David for years, and has shed much blood in the protection of their people.

The city of the Jebusites is thought to be impossible to capture. But for David and his fledgling kingdom, there is no choice. It must be captured. Meanwhile, the Philistines are still as powerful as ever, and their threat is always looming. For generations they have tormented the people of Israel, and David believes the time has come to end their threat—forever. As a once-in-a-lifetime storm batters the hills and valleys of Israel, David and his Mighty Men face their greatest test.
