There are things that God must do, and man must not attempt to do them. There are other things that he has decided in his sovereignty to let man do. He will not do them for man. If man decides not to do them, they will remain undone. This book, Sanctified and Consecrated for Spiritual Ministry, presents the responsibility of the believer to do that which he must do for his sanctification, consecration, and spiritual ministry.

Brokenness, by Professor Fomum, is a real classic for walking the Christian life with total abandonment to the Lord. After the new birth, a man’s spirituality is not measured by his capacity to preach great sermons, to cast out demons, or to heal the sick. Such capacities could be the manifestation of spiritual gifts, which are received from God, regardless of who the person is.

Many believers want to serve the Lord. Many aspire to be servants of the Lord. This is wholesome. However, not many believers have asked themselves what this service of the Lord is. It is easily discernable that most of what people call the service of God is really the service of man...The obstacle to becoming the servant of another man is self. When self is dealt with, a person can become the servant of God and, with increasing dealings with self, the servant of God can become the slave of God and, with even more dealings with self, the slave of God can become the slave of all men.

I believe that the Holy Spirit will lead me on and on, until I am able to truly say: “I know no one on earth who confesses that Jesus is Lord with whom I am not in fellowship as far as it depends on me.” That is one aspect of spiritual rest. There are other aspects covered in this book. My prayer for you, as you read this book, is that you be open to the Holy Spirit and that you obey Him wherever He may lead you and at any cost.

In the world, people look at success principally from the angle of what a person has done. What he is, is of secondary importance. In the kingdom of God, who a person is is crucial and what he does is only an overflow of what he is. God looks at success, first of all, from the point of who we are and only secondarily from what we do. What someone who is rightly related to the Lord does, and another who is out of touch with the Lord does, are miles apart before God.

The Lord Jesus said, “By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples.” In the heart of every believer, there is the yearning to bear much fruit, to bring many others to the Lord and to present those who are brought to him mature in Christ. Many believers are not bearing fruit as they should. They have therefore decided to be content with the fruit of Christian character. This ought not to be so. The Lord wants character, but he also wants people brought to him in large numbers and built up to be like him in every way.

People must be led. When there is a leader, he is followed. The spiritual leader is the one who has made the most progress in knowing God and is serving Him. Such a person has authority with God which no one can take away from him. No one can remove him from leadership. No one can put him into leadership. His intimate knowledge of God, his close walk with Him, his sacrificial service for the Lord and His people, put him apart from the others, and those who want true spiritual leadership turn to him. This is my understanding of spiritual leadership.

If you are a child of God who still commits sin deliberately, committing the same sin over and over, it is because your eyes have never been opened to see that sin is a knife thrust willingly into God's heart; your eyes have never been opened to see the harm that sin causes in every domain of your life.

The messages in this book were given as the last of a series of meetings called leadership courses for the people of God in Cameroon. At the time of preparing the messages I felt that I owed it to the Lord and his people to say all that was on my heart in case it was not possible for the audience to hear me in the future. I thought I should say my last word to the Church. Here it is.
