His video - "how this pocket notebook saved my life." which explores the use of notebooks for in place of your phone in a number of cases was the reason I reached out, as it allowed for a different medium for my flow of thought, and may lead me to stop going into my phone to make a note, only to find myself scrolling half an hour later.

Stacy is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of California, San Francisco, the author of the upcoming book "At Home in the City: Growing Old in Urban America" (coming out in January 2025) and has been published in publications such as the LA Times, USA Today and The Washington Post.

Her article in the LA Times titled "Opinion: I’ve lived into my 40s without ever owning a smartphone. Hopefully I’ll never have to" explores Stacy's decision to live without a smart phone in an ever more connected world and was the catalyst for this conversation.

The first step of getting over any addiction is addressing it.

I am addicted to my phone. I am aware of the irony of using a podcast to explore this issue, so I hope this will make you take stock, stop listening, and go outside.

Along this series, I will be exploring phone usage and social media. I want to explore the effects of excessive screen time, speak with those who are experts in the field, and more than anything I want to look up.
