This podcast is part of a series of episodes from the UCL's Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment. Co-hosts Marco Zunino & Natasha Tennant discuss the phenomenon of urban agriculture with guests Professor Robert Biel from the UCL's Development Planning Unit & Billy Styles, lead grower at Stepney City Farm.
The podcast explores the phenomenon or urban agriculture including:
- Alternative models of urban agriculture: the city farm, community gardens, allotments & guerrilla gardening.
- The impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on urban growing.
- The types of urban spaces that can be used as productive spaces and the opportunities and challenges to doing so.
- Urban agriculture as providing space for innovation and to enhance diversity. Increased diversity allows for the creation of stronger and more resilient food systems.
- Lessons that can be learnt from the Global South and how we can move from a globally exploitative model of food production to a more sustainable model based on the city region.
- The role that can be played by consumers to enable change.
