In this powerful two-part interview, we sit down with Wendy, Dragonfly’s ex-wife. She’s social worker, domestic violence advocate, and respected member of her community.

For eight years, Wendy lived a life with Dragonfly that was built on lies. She was conned into a marriage founded entirely on false pretences, enduring years of emotional, psychological, and physical abuse at the hands of a man she believed she knew.

In part one, Wendy shares how she first met Dragonfly and how he carefully constructed the persona that drew her in, and walks us through the slow erosion of trust and safety that followed. We begin comparing our stories and uncovering the strikingly similar tactics he used to manipulate, isolate, and control each of us.

Wendy also bravely revisits one of the darkest points in her life, when Dragonfly’s violence left her hospitalised with 22 stitches, after he viciously assaulted her. It’s a confronting story of survival and truth-telling, but also of strength, integrity, and reclaiming one’s voice.

This episode sheds light on how coercive control operates behind closed doors, even in the lives of educated and capable women, and how abusers use triangulation, charm, and deceit to maintain their power.
