The Penguin S01E03 began with a flashback, learning about Victor's humble family, who moved to Gotham City in search of better opportunities. His father, Joan Ramon Aguilar, was a mechanic at a local garage and made a decent living in the neighborhood. On the fateful night of November 5th, while Victor was drinking with his girlfriend Graciela on the roof of a nearby building, the Riddler detonated a series of bombs, bringing chaos to the city. The explosion destroyed the infrastructure, flooded Victor's neighborhood, and killed his parents. The incident still haunts Victor, and after the tragedy, he virtually disappeared from the scene, worrying Graciela. She had been texting Victor to make sure he was okay, and in episode 3, she finally texted him while he was out working with Sofia Falcone, inviting him to her house.
