  • Ep 18: Which Bible Translation is the Best?
    Apr 2 2026

Welcome back to This Reading Mama’s podcast!

With so many English translations of the Bible out there, which one is the best? On the one hand, so many English translations can be a blessing. On the other hand, it can feel overwhelming!

In today's episode, we walk you through the Bible translation continuum using alliteration: formal translations (word-for-word), fusion translations (a mix of formal and functional), functional translations (thought-for-thought), and free paraphrases, which aren't actual Bible translations.

We also will talk through a few red flags as you approach translations and some helpful tips for picking what works best for you.

  • Ep 17: The Bible is SO Confusing!
    Mar 26 2026

Welcome back to This Reading Mama’s podcast!

Have you ever heard someone say, “The Bible is SO confusing!”? Perhaps you’ve thought this or said this yourself.

But is the Bible confusing on purpose? Or is there perhaps something we are doing (or not doing) when we read that makes it seem confusing?

A variation of this has been said throughout church history: “The Scriptures are shallow enough for a babe to come and drink without fear of drowning and deep enough for a theologians to swim in without ever touching the bottom." (St. Augustine, St. Jerome)

While this statement isn’t Scripture, it is very much true. Many of the passages in Scriptures can be understood by a child or even a new believer, yet there are passages that require more “swimming lessons” (studying) to understand them.

If you find yourself saying or thinking that the Bible is confusing, Amy and I would like to propose three reasons why this might be the case.

We’re also walking you through a visual, which you can download in the Podcast+ Membership, that can help you think through and understand the Bible more as you read.

  • Ep 16: Covenants of the Bible Part 5 ~ The New Covenant
    Mar 19 2026

Welcome back This Reading Mama’s podcast! We're thankful you're joining us as we've been exploring the covenants of the Bible.

Today, we're talking about The New Covenant. This is an unconditional and eternal covenant made with Israel. It is first introduced in Jeremiah 31:31-34. The good news with this covenant is that Gentiles are partakers of this covenant, as we have been grafted in through the blood of Jesus. Hallelujah!

In this mini-series, we have covered seven covenants of the Bible:

    • Pre-Fall or Edenic Covenant ~ Episode 11, Part 1
    • Post-Fall or Adamic Covenant ~ Episode 11, Part 1
    • Noahic Covenant ~ Episode 11, Part 1
    • Abrahamic Covenant~ Episode 12, Part 2
    • Mosaic Covenant ~ Episode 13, Part 3
    • Davidic Covenant ~ Episode 14, Part 4
    • The New Covenant ~ Episode 16, Part 5 {THIS episode!}

Understanding these covenants helps us all to not only see how God's Word is connected as one Story, but it also allows us to see the attributes of God. In these covenants, we see His faithfulness, goodness, love, righteousness, and justice and how they all fit perfectly together.

Lastly, these covenants help us to see how God wants a relationship with you and me. He doesn't need us, but that's what makes His love towards us even more significant!
