  • Ep. 7: What is the Bible?
    Jan 15 2026

    You might read the Bible everyday, but do you know what it is?

    Do you know what "Bible" means or how many authors wrote the Bible? Do you know how the Bible is organized? Do you know what "testament" means?

    In today's quick episode, Amy and I talk about some of the Bible basics: the authorship of the Bible, the inspiration of the Bible, the Old Testament, the New Testament, and how the Bible is organized. {Hint: It's not in chronological order from Genesis to Revelation.}

  • Ep. 6: Bible Literacy Survey
    Jan 8 2026

    In today’s episode, Amy and I are going over the answers to the Bible Literacy Survey I sent out to my email subscribers back in late November or early December.

    We literally used no script to create this episode, so I hope you’ll enjoy the candid moments, and realize that we’re ALL still learning more about God’s Word!

    On the survey that was sent out, we included 10 questions, 5 from the Old Testament and 5 from the New Testament to test your Bible knowledge. We received 230+ responses, and in today’s episode, we’ll go over all the answers.

    In this episode, we’ve also included TWO bonus or challenge questions, one from each of the testaments, so stay tuned to the end to hear those!

    Just a reminder that the printable Bible Literacy Survey AND reading plans are available to download if you are a Podcast+ Member!

  • Ep. 5: Days of Moses Bible Reading Plan
    Jan 1 2026

    Happy New Year and welcome back to This Reading Mama's podcast! {We are airing this episode on New Year's Day, but we did not record today.}

    We're walking through the life of Moses in this episode, picking up where we left off in episode 2 with Joseph and his family in Egypt. Starting at his birth, we will quickly walk through Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.*

    In this episode, we're giving you another resource to help you read the Bible this year. Back in episode 2, we shared our Beginnings Bible Reading Plan for January. Today, we're sharing our next reading plan for February, Moses Bible Reading Plan.

    Both of these reading plans are a GREAT place to start with reading the Bible. At the same time, they can help you begin to understand that overarching storyline of the Bible.

    Just a reminder that these printable reading plans are available to download if you are a Podcast+ Member! Join our Podcast+ Membership or login to your membership to download the transcript, guided notes, and study tools from each episode!

    If I had to guess, I'd say that this is where most people begin to drop off when reading the Bible through in a year.

    Genesis? No problem! Exodus. We're pretty good, right? Then comes Leviticus. Oh no!

    I hope this episode and Bible reading plan can help you stay on track this year to reading His Word every day. Amy and I would both emphatically say it's SO rewarding to be in His Word.

    Remember, if you're a Podcast+ Member, you can download and print guided notes templates to as you follow along! Just jot your notes, keep, and refer back to them anytime.

    *Three Quick Notes:
    -If you're watching on YouTube, a word was muted at 02:10 to comply with their rules.
    -Moses climbed Mount Sinai (not Moriah).
    -Enjoy the bloopers at the end. :)

  • Ep. 4: Reading the Bible This Year
    Dec 25 2025

    Merry Christmas* and welcome back to This Reading Mama's podcast!

    *Note: We are airing this episode on Christmas Day, but we did not record it on Christmas Day.

    In this episode, we're giving you resources to help you read the Bible this year. Not only do we share five different reading plans, we're sharing a couple of websites and books you can use to help you develop a plan you'll stick with AND understand God's Word better.

    Reading the Bible through may feel like a daunting task to you, but we would both contend that it is SO rewarding.

    The first time Amy or I read through the entire Bible in one year was in 2024, and we did it together! Oh my goodness, what a difference it makes to have an accountability partner who will persevere with you.

    Today, we're sharing several different ways you can read the Bible. And guess what? You don't have to do it in ONE year; you could take longer. Just get in God's Word and READ IT! We're also sharing websites you can use to create a plan that works for you!

  • Ep 3: Why Does Bible Literacy Matter?
    Dec 18 2025

    Welcome back to episode 3 of This Reading Mama's podcast!

    In our first two episodes, we spent a little time defining what "Bible literacy" means. In this episode, we're diving into WHY Bible literacy matters.

    Join our Podcast+ Membership or login to your membership to download the transcript, guided notes, and study tools from each episode!

    Bible literacy has ALWAYS been important for followers of Christ! We need to be in God's Word often, if not daily, and applying the Truth into our lives. In today's episode, Amy and I {Becky} explore several reasons why Bible literacy is so important for us.

    Spoiler Alert! Just one of the points we discuss is that reading and heeding God's Word can protect us from ourselves.

    That's because left on our own, we tend to minimize our sin instead of seeing it as God does. We tend to justify our sin instead of seeing it as God does. We tend to compare our sin to other's sin instead of seeing it as God does. We also tend to rename our sin to make it sound nicer {I'm sharing a prayer request with someone, not gossiping} instead of seeing it as God does. David prayed a bold prayer in Psalm 139:23-24 that God would search him and show him his sin. Spending time with God in His Word helps us to see our sin as God does. Ouch!

  • Ep 2: In the Beginnings Bible Reading Plan
    Dec 11 2025

    If you've ever struggled with the Old Testament, you're in for a treat with episode 2. Amy and I are introducing a new resource for you to help you read the Bible this upcoming year. The first resource for January is called The Beginnings Bible Reading Plan, and you can snag a download as a Podcast+ Member.

    Understanding the overarching storyline of the Bible is imperative for believers! From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible tells ONE story of redemption. We see this story unfolding even in Genesis 3:15 when the Seed is promised.

    In episode 2, Amy and I talk through the storyline of the Old Testament with a bird's-eye view. You'll get a basic understanding of the storyline of the Old Testament from creation to the return of the captives from Babylon. This was HUGE in my own understanding of how all the Sunday School stories fit into the larger picture.

    We'll also take you through the storyline of Genesis with a little more detail AND introduce a simple Bible Reading Plan you can download and start using. {Personally, I will use this Bible reading plan beginning in January.}

    If you're a Podcast+ Member, you can download and print guided notes templates to as you follow along! Just jot your notes, keep, and refer back to them anytime.

  • Ep 1: Introductions & What is Bible Literacy?
    Dec 1 2025

    Welcome to This Reading Mama's podcast! This has been a long time coming, and I'm so excited to finally be launching this podcast.

    Today, I'm sharing the direction and vision of this podcast, Bible literacy as well as introducing you to my dear friend, Amy, who will co-host this podcast with me. Amy and I have studied God's Word together for several years now. It's one of our favorite topics to discuss in real life, so I'm excited that you get to sit in on those discussions!

    While I (Becky) have been blogging at This Reading Mama for nearly 15 years and sharing literacy and educational resources for homeschoolers and teachers, I wanted to take the direction of the podcast into a different space: Biblical literacy.

    At first, I (Becky) didn't think that literacy and the Bible really went together all that much...until I realized that throughout church history, men and women of the faith worked hard and even given their lives so that God's Word be read by the people. This is why we see translations such as The Septuagint, The Vulgate, and The Bishop's Bible. These translators and scholars desired that the Bible be in the language of the people, so the people could read it for themselves!

    Today, we'll share the three components of Bible literacy. There may be more, but these are the ones we brainstormed together. I'm so excited to begin this journey with you!
