À propos de ce contenu audio

This is The Tyler Baughcome Podcast, a project that aims to transcend space and time via speech, that aims to build the human being into that archetypal ideal of which we all conceive, that aims to overcome the very heat death of the universe through the power of human conversation ... no, not really. What it does do is speak to people about their lives, and hopefully you, the listener, can relate in a way that somehow injects positive emotion, purpose, and knowledge into your life.

The podcast is diverse in topics and guests, so instead of the traditional summary, here are two pros and one con of listening. First, your brain will become BIG, so big that you will not know where to fit it once you've gleaned all this wisdom. Second, it is highly unlikely that you will die while listening. The con is this: in the time you spend listening to one episode of my podcast, you can expect to make at least $5.15 working somewhere in the United States. Time is money, so choose wisely.

    • #3 - Michelle Baughcome (Mom): Motherhood, Ufology, and Dregs of Probation and Parole
      Oct 16 2023

Mom was a part of South Carolina's law enforcement for almost 20 years as a member of Probation and Parole, is heavily interested in ufology, is the mother of an only child (myself), and grew up around the U.S. in places such as California, Nebraska, and South Carolina after following her father's academic career. If you've ever thought of becoming a mother, are worried about the decreasing rates of motherhood and the growing stigma attached to it, are thinking about a career in law enforcement, are concerned about what the government is hiding from us, or even interested in how to contact extraterrestrial life, I encourage you to listen to this episode.

    • #2 - Dr. Susan Smith: The Metaphysics of Race, Whistling Vivaldi, and Racial Inequity in Healthcare
      Oct 16 2023

Dr. Susan Smith is a senior lecturer in the cognitive science department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. At RPI, Susan teaches a variety of courses, including Bioethics, Philosophy of Race, and Philosophy of Biology and Sex. Her research has largely consisted in the intersection between healthcare and race, and therefore she has a plethora of knowledge on racial inequity in the U.S.'s healthcare system.

I met Susan as a student in her Philosophy of Race class, and though I think the class is a little too consistent with progressive politics, I found myself infinitely more comfortable talking about race afterward. Susan's qualities as a teacher, such as inclination towards empathy, her intelligence, and her passion for social justice are on full display in this episode, and if you're interested in why sickle cell anemia occurs, how whistling Vivaldi can shift people's perception of you, why DEI training doesn't work, what to do instead of these trainings, and what the hell Critical Race Theory actually is.

"For the development of Japanese genius, Japanese literature and art, Japanese spirit, only Japanese, bound and welded together, Japanese inspired by one vast ideal, can work out in its fullness the wonderful message which Japan has for the nations of the earth. For the development of Negro genius, of Negro literature and art, of Negro spirit, only Negroes bound and welded together, Negroes inspired by one vast ideal, can work out in its fullness the great message we have for humanity. We cannot reverse history; we are subject to the same natural laws as other races, and if the Negro is ever to be a factor in the world’s history—if among the gaily-colored banners that deck the broad ramparts of civilization is to hang one uncompromising black, then it must be placed there by black hands, fashioned by black heads and hallowed by the travail of 200,000,000 black hearts beating in one glad song of jubilee." - W. E. B. Du Bois

    • #1 - Tristan Ponceca: Capitalism vs. Socialism, Plight of a First-Generation Filipino , and Anime
      Oct 16 2023

Tristan Ponceca is a former colleague of mine from the tech industry. Tristan's interests and family history came out in an episode that transitions from economics to his family history to anime. If you're interested in what the whole deal with anime is, what it's like being a first generation immigrant from the Philippines, or even how to rule a new world order from the lens of capitalism or socialism, I encourage you to listen to the remainder of this episode.
