EP45 – The Jagtar Singh ‘Jaggi’ Johal Case: Political Pressure, Human Rights, and the Failure of Sikh MPs

Jagtar Singh Johal’s case has drawn significant international attention, with human rights organisations and political observers raising concerns about due process, political motivations, and the UK’s role in advocating for his release. Despite being acquitted in one of the cases against him in March 2025 due to lack of credible evidence, Jagtar remains imprisoned as other similar cases are still pending.

Critics have also pointed to the limited impact of some UK Sikh MPs, suggesting they have not done enough to press the UK government into action or effectively advocate on Jagtar’s behalf. This has led to broader conversations about political pressure, international diplomacy, and the representation of minority communities in British politics.
