In Psalm 60, David faces national defeat and devastation—but instead of blaming circumstances, he brings the crisis before God. In the middle of shaking ground and staggering confusion, the Lord speaks from His sanctuary, reminding His people that every land and every nation ultimately belongs to Him. When human strength fails and “vain is the help of man,” Psalm 60 calls us to renewed courage: with God, we shall do valiantly.

In Gospel of Luke 18:18–30, a rich ruler asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life, only to discover that following Christ requires more than moral achievement—it requires surrender. When Jesus tells him to sell all he has and follow Him, the man walks away sorrowful, revealing that his wealth had become his true master.
