  • Benjamin Sesko to the rescue - podcast #449
    Feb 11 2026

West Ham United 1 vs Manchester United 1
    T Soucek (50')
    B Sesko (90+6)
    Premier League
    8:15pm, Tuesday 10th February 2026
    London Stadium, Attendance: 62,473

Michael Carrick : "Mixed feelings, we know we weren't quite at our best, and credit West Ham for that, closing certain spaces up, but we can be better.

"The boys were a bit frustrated and disappointed, with that, which is a really good sign for me. And then finishing with a late goal when we've had to find one is a good moment, and another positive for us to know that we can do that.

"And we don't want to have to pull on it and use it too often but in the grand scheme, there's a point, something we can take, and we kind of dust ourselves down a little bit, assess it, take these games off, a five-game period, and to just have one draw in there is a big positive."

Michael Carrick : “I’m encouraging confidence, not flicks and tricks, but playing with purpose.

“The connection with everyone has been as good as anything. The feeling, the emotion and connection with players, staff and fans – it feels good. We’ve had to win games in different ways. It gives me a lot of satisfaction to see the stadium this way, to look forward to the excitement.

“I’m pleased with the buy-in. We’re in a good emotional place and that helps you. The four games we’ve had look different, we’ve not cracked it. I’m aware of that.”

Michael Carrick : “Massively proud. I think it was different from last week. It was always going to be different today. They put us under a lot of pressure in different ways.

“We probably didn’t have as much genuine, regular threat within the game as we did last week, but I thought there were periods when we looked really dangerous.

“To come here and score three goals in the manner we did, going one down, coming back, then the setback, and still keeping going – it was a huge moment for us.

“The boys had to put an awful lot in today. It probably didn’t come as easy as it did last week. Last week, the time, the flow of the game and the momentum was with us pretty much throughout, whereas today we had to dig deep.

“It was a massive effort and I’m really proud of them.”

Michael Carrick : “Today was special. Putting things together quickly and trying to put an imprint on the team. Gathering together and emotionally getting attached to what we want to do. I felt that was unbelievable from the staff and the players.

“I am not getting carried away. It is one result, but it needs to be a regular feeling with that level of performance.”

“For so many reasons, today was special. But it’s one game and it’s really important we don’t get carried away. We need to maintain that level of performance. It’s a great day and a fantastic results. We’ll soak it up and enjoy, but it’s definitely not enough. It’s never enough.”

Darren Fletcher : “You can see that the players are fragile and they need to build themselves up. It’s up to them now, they’ve got to respond.

“Confidence is one of the most powerful things in football and when you don’t have it, you have to dig deep, you have to win, battle, fight, grind, work, win games and then the confidence comes back.

“They’re experiened players, they’re talented players and I challenge them to regroup. Someone is going to come in and lead them and they need to make sure they’ve got a lot to play for this season.

“This team is still good enough to have success this season, but they’ve got to dig deep and find a way within themselves.”

Last game? “This is what I’ve been asked to do so I’ve not had any discussions beyond that. I did the job this week and we have to concentrate on the game. All the discussions around that will unfold in the next couple of days.”

    B Sesko (50′, 60′)
    Premier League
    8:15pm, Wednesday 7th January 2026
    Turf Moor, Attendance : 21,047

Darren Fletcher : “I sat down with him yesterday and showed him videos of his movement and how the opportunities are going to come, to just keep believing, keep making the runs.

“The rest of the team have to look for him more as well. And like with all strikers, once you get that first goal, you hit the back of the net, it builds your confidence and hopefully it starts flowing for him from there.

“Everyone can see his qualities, I thought he was fantastic tonight, he led the line really well and maybe he could have gone on and had a hat-trick as well.

“It’s a real positive night for him and definitely probably the biggest positive for the night really, his two goals, and hopefully that’s good for Manchester United’s future.”

  • I’m the manager of Manchester United – podcast #442
    Jan 4 2026

Leeds United 1 vs Manchester United 1
    B Aaronson (62′)
    M Cunha (65′)
    Premier League
    12:30pm, Sunday 4th January 2026
    Elland Road, Attendance: 36,909

Ruben Amorim : “I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach of Manchester United.” “That is clear.”

“I know that my name is not Tuchel, it’s not Conte, it’s not Mourinho, but I’m the manager of Manchester United and it’s going to be like this for 18 months or when the board decides to change.

“That was my point. I want to finish with that. I’m not going to quit. I will do my job until another guy is coming here to replace me.”

“I think we played well. I think we had more control in this game than we showed against Wolves. That is important when you prepare for the next week as you can learn from the mistakes you made in the last game.

“We controlled Leeds quite well. A team that is quite strong on set-pieces and second balls and really quick up front. We had our opportunities to win the game, of course. We are losing games in the details. For Leeds’ goal, we are controlling the game and one kick in transition.

“We managed to get back into the game. Last year, it would be completely different. This year we are in control of the games more often than last year. We are little bit frustrated not to win.”
