  • Ep. 176 - Can't Find the LEGO Set of Your Dreams? Here's How to Change it.
    Apr 29 2026

There’s a whole side of the LEGO hobby that many builders never fully explore… and it might completely change the way you look at your collection. In this episode, we’re diving into the world of LEGO Alternative Builds (Alt Builds) — where one set can become dozens of completely new creations.

We’ll start by breaking down the difference between a MOC (My Own Creation) and an Alt Build, including the three main types of MOCs:

    • True original builds
    • Official set-based creations
    • And builds that transform an existing set into something entirely new

From custom display pieces (like my own Imagination Brickshop builds) to incredible fan creations inspired by iconic models like LEGO 10256 Taj Mahal, this world goes way deeper than most people realize. We’ll also show you exactly where to find the best Alt Builds, including platforms like Rebrickable, where designers share instructions that can completely reinvent sets you already own.

Not only am I going to highlight some amaing ALT Build Designers, but we’ll walk through five incredible Alt Builds worth your time, transforming familiar sets into something entirely new — from Barad-dûr inspired builds to creative reimaginings of sets like LEGO 76989 Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck, LEGO 76215 Black Panther Bust, and even dinosaur fossils.

If you’ve ever wished you could get more out of your LEGO sets without buying more bricks… this is the episode for you.
