In this active imagination exercise, we investigate the symbol of the forest. Forests continue to play a vital role in our lives. Much of Europe was once dominated by forest. Today, the Amazon Rainforest is believed to contain around 10% of all the world's species. Forests are often associated with the unconscious itself - they contain many unknown elements, and you never quite know what you're going to discover. They are places of loneliness, healing, and continuous growth and decay.

Jung himself once wrote: "The forest has a mysterious impenetrability. Things suddenly appear and disappear, and there are no paths. Anything is possible."

This exercise uses active imagination, a technique developed by Carl Jung for engaging directly with unconscious contents, facilitating genuine psychological transformation.
