  • Who is Eric Jones and Why He Matters For Wine?
    Dec 11 2025

If you drink Napa or Sonoma wine, or care about keeping American wine diverse and independent, this moment matters. The small producers who shaped these regions are fighting to survive, and that struggle shapes what will end up in your glass for years to come.

In 2025, Napa and Sonoma are under real strain. Small wineries are struggling, and so are the restaurants, farmers, shops, and workers who keep these valleys alive. The economic pressures are reshaping what it means to live and work here.

We spoke with Eric Jones, who’s challenging longtime incumbent Mike Thompson in the newly redrawn District 4. We wanted to hear how he imagines the future of wine country, and what it will take for these communities to stay vibrant in the years ahead. We’ll be talking with Mike Thompson soon as well, because the Napa and Sonoma Valleys deserve a conversation about what is at stake and comes next.
