    • Raj Subrameyer Interview - Run Your Own Race
      May 20 2021
Raj Subrameyer is an international keynote speaker, tech career coach and author of ‘Skyrocket Your Career: The No Bullsh*t Approach to Find Your Dream Job, Be Successful in It, and Transform into a Rockstar’. Born and raised in Chennai, South India, Raj always felt like he was not good enough. His dad was super smart and his brother was a genius, he felt he was always being compared to them both and felt inferior. He was an introvert, suffered from social anxiety, body issues (fat kid) and felt an outcast.  An event at Uni was a trigger for a major transformation of overcoming his fears which he writes about in his new book. Raj moved to the US in 2008 just as the recession started. He applied for 1293 jobs and got 4 callbacks, in which 1 converted into a ‘job’ or internship. His motto, ‘Do whatever it takes’. It is a timely conversation to be having as 30 millions jobs are being lost in the US alone right now.  Take a listen to the podcast where we discuss: How to shift your mindset from scarcity to abundance Change is possible and you are worthy of change Establishing credibility and trust Building a personal brand And some tips from Raj: To work out what job you want to do - complete the mind dump exercise Create 2 columns - What do you LIKE to do? / What do you HATE to do? Spend 30-60 minutes making this list Choose the Top 3 things from each column Search for jobs with the LIKE activities (run away from jobs that include things you HATE) For college grads - how to get your foot in the door Looks for internships - paid or unpaid & add to your resume Invest in yourself (or your startup career) - upskill - do online courses eg. Udemy or Khan Academy Update your LinkedIn profile - add keywords for SEO, build connections Strategise your job application process Run your own race At the Business Connections Podcast we are all about sharing stories that demonstrate the power of connection. We thank Raj Subrameyer for being generous with his time and sharing his wisdom with us all. We wish Raj all the very best with the new book and continuing to help people develop their career opportunities! Having gone through her own journey of weight and low self esteem issues, Katie made the decision to just ‘Be Happy!’.  Katie had always been a size 10 until the age of 21. She then slowly crept up to around size 16 and she didn’t know why. She thought something was wrong with her. It was debilitating and caused her to experience depression. That was until she made a conscious decision to ‘just be happy’. She asked herself, what did she want to do when she got thin and then she did those things! Her personal journey has compelled her to help others to ‘just be happy’ though her Dietless Living coaching programs. Katie is launching the Dietless Living Academy where people can access onlines courses together with weekly support calls with Katie. Katie has developed ‘The 4 laws for losing weight for life’ which are: Habits - create new ones (sustainable habits) Vitality - live life Connection - bridge the conscious and unconscious mind Identity - rebuild (change the old story) Take a listen to the podcast where we discuss: Bastard Voice - what is it and how to make friends with it How to loosen up in readiness for great change 2 core strategies to make permanent change Change it up - go against every mental instinct Flip your mindset - find ways to make it fun And some insights from Katie: Have a purpose for losing weight or making a lifestyle change Lean into things that help and lean away from things that don’t help One of her favourite quotes “Living is not enough, one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower” Hans Christian Andersen At the Business Connections Podcast we are all about sharing stories that demonstrate the power of connection. • Stewart Marshall Interview - Make Sure You Are Solving Someone’s Problem
      Feb 5 2021
Stewart Marshall, aka Mr SaaS, is a commercial software strategist helping SaaS entrepreneurs realise their software dreams. He is also a translator of gibberish, innovator, speaker and best selling author. His 30 years+ experience in IT, R&D and high speed development tools enables him to be able to explain to others, in plain english, the journey from software creator to a finished platform. To help others make sense of technology. SaaS or Software as a Service, has 3 flavours according to Stewart: Vertical model Industry problem eg. Xero Horizontal model Industry agnostic eg. Zoom Service SaaS Helps them deliver their service eg. Adding functionality into  other people’s software Connecting with a neighbour over dinner one night, sparked Stewart to pursue a second career where he now helps funded founders create software that solves people’s needs rather than creating technology for technology's sake. Most developers start out with a great idea and get stuck in the detail of making the software functional, beautiful and integrated rather than solving a real need for the real world. And while doing so end up blowing the budget! Most problems stem from a lack of, or unknown scope and an undefined timeline. Some tips for those considering creating software: Hasten slowly Know you have the money for it - be realistic Think it, ink it - check it’s viable Sleep on it - is it really unique? Call Mr SaaS and check if not sure! Does it solve a problem? Note: There are 2 million apps on the App Store, including 7,00 apps in the Marketing space alone. What makes your idea unique? Stewart brings together the technology and the human experience and helps businesses find their sweet spot. Take a listen to the podcast where we discuss: What problem are you trying to solve? How to use technology to enhance the human experience Software is not a unicorn And some insights from Stewart: There is plenty of scope to be better - how are you better? How can you better solve people’s needs? If you don’t know - go and learn! At the Business Connections Podcast we are all about sharing stories that demonstrate the power of connection. We thank Stewart Marshall for being generous with his time and sharing his wisdom with us all. We wish Stewart all the very best with his 2nd book and keep an eye out for Mr SaaS…he’s a cheeky thing!
