  • Introducing be.wild.er
    Sep 24 2025

It's been a while since I posted anything to The Bind! And that's because I quietly retired this podcast.

Things are moving over to Substack, where I have recently launched be.wild.er - a new project that will combine writing and podcasting. You can sign up for be.wild.er here. You should also be able to find the podcast in the normal places by searching for be.wild.er with Greg Flynn.

I hope you'll come and join me!

  • What do you practice?
    Mar 8 2024

It’s been a minute, and I’ve missed this, um, practice of recording The Bind.

I’d been waiting to finish the trilogy of episodes that Jordan and I had started (Check out ‘Why Do Men Isolate?’ and ‘Why Do Men Have a Hard Time Feeling Their Feelings?’), but couldn’t wait any longer. Fear not, we’ll get to it—it’s just got a timeline of its own.

So I thought I’d talk a bit about practice, something near and dear to my heart. Afterall, we are all practicing something.

I’d love to hear how this lands for you. You can always drop a line to me at greg@gregorybflynn.

    Cheers!

    Dec 28 2023

We are back with episode two of our three episode arc—once again, joined by Jordan Ferretti.

Go check out seattlemenscircle.com for information on our upcoming online circles.

In this episode we explore some of the reasons it can be tricky for men to tap into their feelings—and why it’s increasingly more important that we learn how to.

We talk about how men are conditioned into the strategy of self-control, and what the antidote to that is.

And we talk about the value of a men’s circle in supporting men in feeling their feelings.

Please share this episode with anyone you think would find value in it. And subscribe to the podcast! That helps a ton.

  • Why Do Men Isolate?
    Nov 30 2023

We're back! And we're back with a three part series that features my good friend and collaborator Jordan Ferretti of Team Builder Dojo.

Each of these episodes will be paired with an online men's circle. You can learn more by visiting seattlemenscircle.com. However, here's the high-level overview:

    - December 28th - Why Do Men Isolate?
    - January 9th - Why Do Men Have a Hard Time Feeling Their Feelings?
    - January 16th - Why Are Men Lost?

All circles will run from 5pm - 6:30pm PST. We hope you'll join us.

In the episode, we said the first circle was 12/12. Well, we lied! Hope you can join us on the 28th!

And stay tuned, as we'll have more info soon on a weekly men's circle starting in late January!

In this episode, we explore the all-too-common phenomenon of men isolating. Whether for you that means not asking for help, or never sharing what's going on internally (in your heart and mind), or withdrawing from the people around you—this is for you. If you know a guy who isolates, this is for you.

We explore how to recognize isolation, why we do it, and what we can do about it.

If this resonates with you, we'd love to see you in the circle!

  • Good grief!
    Sep 14 2023

    Hey! It’s been a minute.

Some stuff’s been on my mind, and I thought I’d share with you.

Let me know how it lands for you.

You can always reach me at greg@gregorybflynn.com

Some links for things mentioned in this episode:

    • The Wild Edge of Sorrow, by Francis Weller - a wonderful book the supports us in re-connecting to age-old practices around grief.
    • The Smell of Rain on Dust, by Martín Prechtal - another fantastic book on grief. Turns out the subtitle was more direct than I’d realized! :-)

  • Walkin' and talkin'
    Jun 15 2023

A bit of a different one today. I wanted to explroe something that’s been on my mind, but not be glued to my desk (with my fancy microphone). So if you’re listening to this one, you’re on a walk with me.

One of the things I pretty much always invite guys to do is to feel what’s happening in their bodies. The sensations that are happening in our bodies are pretty much always telling us something. How much access do we have to them?

We’re not talking about emotions just yet—just the sensations in the body (e.g. tightness in my stomach, warmth on my face).

What do you notice when you listen to this one? What happens for you when you hear the invitation to feel?

I’d love to learn what’s happening for you.

Some links for things mentioned on this episode:

    • Washington Park Arboretum - a lovely park here in Seattle. So lovely I proposed to my wife there about 10.5 years ago (!).
    • Our six-week training for guys - the program Jordan and I are offering right now. Look good? It’s gonna be even better this fall. Let me know if you might be interested.

  • You have to put yourself in a position to be uncomfortable (a conversation with Mike Joseph)
    Jun 1 2023
This one is far and reaching and was a lot of fun.

Quick CW: brief mention of suicide ideation.

Mike Joseph is the host and producer of the podcast Detoxicity, which aims to rewrite the code for what’s considered masculine in society. I was lucky enough to be featured on a recent episode (see the below link).

Mike is also a mental health advocate, working alongside a variety of non profit organizations that intertwine mental wellness and music. Over the last three decades, he’s maintained a career in the music industry while also working as a journalist and radio personality. Mike was born in and is currently based in Brooklyn, NY.

Our conversation moves between his experience of stepping into his own healing work to realizing he was polyamorous. We talk mental health, race, and getting outdoors.

Like I said, far and reaching. Check out Mike’s podcast, Detoxicity or find him on Instagram: @detoxpodguy.

As always, I’d love to hear how this episode lands for you. You can reach me at greg@gregorybflynn.com or on the 'gram: @men.connecting.

Some links for things mentioned in this episode:

    • Detoxicity Episode featuring me - I really enjoyed being on Mike’s pod!
    • Patrice Palmer TEDx Talk - It’s in this talk that I heard Patrice Palmer say, “There is a difference between you are welcome here and I had you in mind.” Worth watching the whole thing.
    • The Bind Episode with Weston Karnes - Mike’s theory on how we connected lies with Weston.
    • Let’s Get Real, Bro - Weston’s game for men.

  • Hey guys! This weekend I learned to . . .
    May 25 2023

Let's take a little step into anger, shame, difficulty in self-regulation.

I'm not proud of the stories I tell here, but that's the point behind telling them.

My thanks to good friend Jordan Ferretti for helping me see that there's a way to work with this energy that is healthy and productive—a way that I've always scoffed at.

Curious how this lands for you. Let me know at greg@gregorybflynn.com or on IG: @men.connecting.
