  • Sunday Edition Presents: May We Get to Know the Blind Travel Foundation with Mike and Mike
    Jun 23 2025

    Episode Notes

This past Sunday on Sunday Edition, we celebrated pride, love, and possibility. 🌈❤️

We opened the show with warm congratulations for Mike Walsh on his recent engagement and upcoming wedding, kicking off Pride Month’s final week with love, joy, and community spirit.

Then we dove into an inspiring conversation with two powerhouse leaders in the world of blind travel: Mike May and Mike Walsh.

Mike May, a legend in adaptive tech and the subject of the bestselling book Crashing Through, spoke candidly about the vulnerabilities and power of sharing both struggles and triumphs with the broader world. He encouraged listeners to break out of their comfort zones, embrace the unknown, and experience the world through the lens of travel and exploration. 🌍✈️

Mike Walsh, Executive Director of the Blind Travel Foundation, shared the mission behind this dynamic new nonprofit—connecting blind and low vision travelers to resources, mentorship, and funding to help them realize their dreams of independent and meaningful travel.

Together, the Mikes discussed how travel is not just a luxury—it’s access, identity, and self-expression. They invited listeners to help grow the movement by donating or becoming sponsors. These contributions support projects that marry travel with purpose, helping members of our community expand their horizons and experience success.

We also previewed the upcoming Blind Travel Summit, happening in Austin, Texas on November 13 and 14, 2025. It promises to be a landmark gathering for advocates, travelers, innovators, and allies.

From advocacy to adventure, tech to trailblazing, this episode reminded us what’s possible when community, access, and wanderlust come together. 💪💼🌟

  • Sunday Edition Presents: Why Pride Matters… Now More Than Ever
    Jun 16 2025

    Episode Notes

This special Pride Month episode of Sunday Edition brought together a powerful panel of voices from our LGBTQIA+ community and allies to discuss a topic that feels more urgent than ever: why Pride still matters, now more than ever.

Host Anthony Corona was joined by four incredible panelists: Gabriel Lopez Kafati Tristan Snyder Margot Downey Brynn Lowden

Together, we explored the heart of Pride—what it means, how far we’ve come, and what we’re still fighting for. From celebration to protest, from visibility to vulnerability, our panelists reminded us why Pride is not just a party—it’s a promise.

    Key topics included:

Why Pride remains essential in 2025 How anti-LGBTQIA+ laws and rhetoric are affecting our most vulnerable The importance of staying vigilant, staying safe, and staying visible How we can reach into our history of advocacy and remix those lessons for today's landscape The symbolic and symbiotic connection between joy and resistance

We celebrated our triumphs, acknowledged the ongoing struggles, and centered the importance of unity across identity, gender, ability, and experience.

While this episode centered voices from across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, we also highlighted the essential role of our strong, straight, and steadfast allies. There is a seat at the table for everyone who comes with love, comes with pride, and is ready to speak truth to power.

  • Sunday Edition Presents: Photonics – Access, Innovation, and the Future of Smart Glasses
    May 11 2025

    Episode Notes

In this episode of Sunday Edition, Anthony sits down with Gabriel Habech, the co-creator of Fovionics, to dive deep into the story behind a revolutionary piece of wearable tech designed for the blind and low vision community. Gabriel shares how he and his co-founder first met while studying engineering at FIU and began collaborating on ways to use technology for real-world impact. Inspired by Gabriel’s close family friend Augusto — who lost his vision at age 7 — the two began exploring solutions that address challenges canes alone can’t solve. The result: Fovionics smart glasses, equipped with innovative object detection sensors and an AI companion built specifically with feedback from our community. During this insightful conversation, Anthony and Gabriel walk through the development process step-by-step, answer listener questions, and unpack how Fovionics is the first to use this specific type of sensor in smart glasses, allowing for detection of hazards like low-hanging branches and signage — often missed by traditional mobility tools. They also discuss the real cost of access technology, how Fovionics' subscription model can help ease financial barriers, and why early community involvement is essential. With only 200 Early Adopter slots available and about 30% already filled, there's still a chance to help shape a tool that could transform lives — making it more responsive, intuitive, and affordable. If you’re interested in being part of this exciting project, visit the links below: - Early Adopter Program - Interest Form The episode also explores the fascinating eye-to-brain and ear-to-brain connection, and how artificial intelligence and sensory input are getting us closer to real-time, adaptive tools — while acknowledging there’s still more progress to be made. Participating in this beta could play a vital role in moving access tech forward for everyone. Don’t miss this important conversation about innovation, advocacy, and inclusion — and how you can be part of the future of assistive tech. --- How to Listen: - Tune in every Sunday at 1 PM Eastern on 2020 The Beacon - Or search for Sunday Edition with Anthony Corona wherever you get your podcasts Join the Sunday Edition Family: - Facebook Group: Above the Fold: The Sunday Edition Conversation Space - To subscribe to our email list, send a blank message to: SundayEditionNews+subscribe@groups.io --- Coming Soon: Behind the Music Presented by Sunday Edition – The AI Open Mic Every third Friday of the month on 2020 The Beacon, we’re opening the virtual stage for AI-generated creativity. • Sunday Edition Presents: Keeping the Light of Faith Burning Bright in an Increasingly Darkening World
    May 7 2025

    Episode Notes

For over five years now, Sunday Edition has been the news magazine show for members of our community to share their thoughts… And engage in deep and heartfelt conversations…

This week we welcome three incredible community members: So bring your thoughts to Sunday Edition!

As the world around us seems to spin faster into chaos and uncertainty, how do we keep the light of our faith strong and steady? How can our beliefs embolden our spirits, inspire our advocacy, and guide our self-care and service to others?

Join us this Sunday at 1 PM Eastern for a soul-stirring conversation exploring:

    • What it truly means to be a person of faith
    • How to apply the promises and tenets of our spiritual traditions to modern challenges
    • And, in Anthony’s words, why “Christians—or any persons of faith—who claim to speak for the higher power are the ones that scare me the most.”

Meet our incredible panel of faithful voices:

Mark Richert is widely known in the blindness and low vision community for his decades of public policy work and currently leads international development at the Overbrook School for the Blind.

But beyond advocacy, Mark is a lifelong Lutheran whose deep commitment to his historical Christian faith is matched by his hunger for big, transformative questions. His passion for justice, mercy, and prophetic witness guides his belief in a faith that welcomes the stranger, uplifts the oppressed, and challenges each of us to carry our cross daily.

Doug AKA DJ Hansard, affectionately known as Reverend DJ, is a beloved contributor to Sunday Edition.

A lifelong man of faith, DJ is revered across the blind and vision loss community for his unwavering message of inspiration, hope, and spiritual strength. He’s never afraid to share his light—and he’s just as comfortable offering a listening ear as he is delivering a sermon.

    In his own words:

    > “Bible prophecy predicted many years ago that the times we’re currently living would take place. > Our ‘FAITH IN GOD’ tells us to ‘BELIEVE’ and ‘TRUST’ that WE’RE GONNA BE TAKEN CARE OF.”

DJ will expand on this message of divine trust and guidance, live on Sunday Edition.

Lorna DesRoses (pronounced Derose) is a Catholic lay minister committed to building bridges across cultures and creating spaces of belonging within the Church.

With a background in ESL education and a Master of Arts in Ministry from the Theological Institute at St. John’s Seminary, Lorna advocates fiercely for disability inclusion in faith spaces.

She has spoken at the National Black Catholic Congress and on national panels for the National Catholic Partnership on Disability. She is also the host of Voices from the Pews, a podcast uplifting the stories of Catholics of color.

Based in Boston with her husband Robert and her guide dog Aster, Lorna’s joy-filled witness to the love of Christ inspires all who meet her.

We’ll also be answering questions from our amazing audience!
