Many members of the diaspora feel pressured to conform to the cultural identity of Native Black Americans, often leading to the erasure of their own distinct heritages. Finally, we discuss ways to embrace the rich diversity within Blackness without resorting to cultural assimilation.

Recognizing how general identities have done nothing but hindered our progress. Terms like Minority, Flat Blackness, or Civil Rights as opposed to things like LGBT rights, or Asian rights has left Soulaan with little to nothing to show for.
