    • Big Islanders Win, Jets Offseason Questions, and Stickball Pride
      Jan 6 2026

In this episode of SportsBash, Peter Schwartz opens the first show of 2026 from Governor’s Comedy Club with a wide-ranging look at New York sports, highlighted by a statement win from the New York Islanders and a deep dive into the state of the New York Jets.

Peter breaks down the Islanders’ impressive win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, focusing on the growing buzz around rookie Matthew Schaefer and the renewed energy inside UBS Arena. With the Islanders firmly in the playoff mix, the discussion centers on why this team has captured the imagination of fans and what Schaefer’s early impact means moving forward.

The show also features the return of the SportsBash Flash, covering the latest headlines from the Knicks, Rangers, Jets, and college basketball. Peter is then joined by Antwon Staley of the New York Daily News for an in-depth conversation on the Jets’ disastrous season, roster turnover, coaching decisions, draft positioning, and whether fans should buy into the organization’s vision heading into the offseason.

The episode closes on a more personal note, as Peter shares a proud dad moment reflecting on his sons and the Gotham City Dragons’ run in the One Bounce Stickball League Snowy Showdown, highlighting the resurgence of stickball and the importance of respecting the game and the young players bringing it back.

    • Special Monday Edition: Jets Spiral, Giants Win That Hurts, and a Moment That United UBS Arena
      Dec 29 2025

Peter Schwartz hosts a special Monday edition of SportsBash from Governor’s Comedy Club in Levittown during the holiday week, covering football, local sports, and a few personal reflections.

The show opens with a blunt reaction to the Jets’ loss to the Patriots, a game that became noncompetitive early and raised serious questions about effort, leadership, and the direction under Aaron Glenn with Buffalo still ahead.

The focus then shifts to the Giants, who snapped a long losing streak by beating the Raiders. While the win stopped the skid, it angered many fans because of what it may have cost them in draft position and trade leverage.

New York Post columnist Mark Cannizzaro joins the show to break down both teams, explain why players do not tank the way fans expect, explore realistic draft scenarios including a possible Jets and Giants trade, and touch on golf, soccer, and the World Cup coming to the New York area.

Peter also highlights one of the weekend’s most powerful moments. A 104-year-old World War II veteran, Dominic Critelli, performed the National Anthem on saxophone at UBS Arena, with Rangers and Islanders fans chanting together in a rare moment of unity.

The episode includes What’s Hot at Ticketbash, New Year’s resolutions for local teams, a lighthearted Embassy Diner story, and a quick nod to Peter’s kids and their stickball team.

      WFAN Update

Peter addresses listener questions about his role at WFAN, making it clear he was not fired. He reflects on the end of Infinity Sports Network, which he had been part of since 2013, and the shift away from traditional top-of-the-hour updates. He confirms he remains part of the Audacy and WFAN family and previews the return of the SportsBash Flash in 2026.

Peter closes the final SportsBash of 2025 by thanking sponsors, the team, and listeners, and looks ahead to the show’s return on January 6.
