À propos de ce contenu audio

This is a podcast for service personnel who have reached the time they have to leave the services. This can be a really mentally difficult time, where you feel utterly alone! After numerous conversations with friends and leavers, a theme started to develop. I posted on LinkedIn to find there were a number of people feeling the same and wanted a place to talk and get help. So Shelve Your Boots was born! This cast will be discussing the mental and emotional side of leaving the services and what you should expect coming into the real world once again!Katie Fryer Economie Management Management et direction

This week I was joined by Emily Gannaway, Emily was incredibly open and honest about her transition out of the military with mental health diagnosis.

It's not often you can have a conversation with someone so openly about mental health and speaking to Emily did make me feel seen.

This podcast may be triggering for some listeners. It is a conversation that is needed more frequently with this level of openness.

This week I had the pleasure of talking with Ali and Rich from What Makes The Difference.

We discussed their work with the whole package that is family when transitioning out of the military. They are on the front lines of seeing what I have been speaking about this year, the realities of leaving the military.

If you want to checkout their great work or want to request help, please check them out on Instagram and Facebook as well as their website.

This is the first in a series I will be doing in women's health called Policy and Periods.

This week I got to talk to two incredible people Surg Lt Cdr Ruth Guest who is a serving doctor in the Royal Navy as well as conducting research into women's health while they serve and Dr Lauren Godier-McBard who is the Director of the Centre for Military Women's Research and Deputy, Director of the Veterans & Families Institute for Military Social Research, and an associate Professor of Women and Equities at Anglia Ruskin University.

Two incredibly busy people but who are incredibly passionate about this research space.

This was an area I didn't even know existed, there are a lot of people conducting huge amounts of research into military personnel and veterans.

This research has the power to change the next generation's experiences for the better.

If you would like to get involved in the surveys or interviews please check out Dr Lauren Godier on LinkedIn.
