  • Perspectives on Leadership - Conversation with Neil Hayward
    Aug 24 2023

In the mid-80’s, I worked in London for the Midland Bank Group (later acquired by HSBC). When I was working in Head Office, I had the fortune to meet some great and promising HR Management Trainees including Neil Hayward. When the Midland Group created a new Personal Financial Services Division, Neil joined my team. Our careers subsequently took different paths but I recently re-connected with Neil to invite him to my podcast series. I found Neil’s stories about leadership very compelling and the insights into vulnerability when you’re the Chief People Officer charged with a high profile mandate at short notice! Another great example of leading and learning in the moment.

    * Making critical decisions based on fact and analysis not emotion
    * Setting stretch goals and the support to achieve such goals
    * A leader's role is to make people feel valued and listened to.
