On this week's pod, we're exposing our Favorite Food Spots on Kauai; the places that we love to eat at currently, and the locations that are closed, but we wish we could return to. It's a grab bag of Mom-and-Pop Shops, Fancier Restaurants, Local Food, Mexican Food, Asian Food, Mexican-Asian Fusion, and a shout out to what we have coined "The Mainlander Embassy". We'll be sure to come back to food (probably in the next Extended PP), but check out the link below to see all the places we mentioned, and let us know if you think we missed any of the best food spots on Kauai?

We are doing another pod based on an Audience Suggestion: What hobbies/interests have you only dabbled in, or haven't engaged in at all (and maybe why).

Kahai explains why he hasn't played D&D even though he's a big nerd. Aldrine talks about the instruments he always wanted to try, and the hobby he's avoided because of expenses and past experiences. Aaron shares how he tricks Ukulele Builders into thinking he is one of them.
Do you have hobbies/interests that you've wanted to try, but haven't jumped in? Would you play D&D, or Drift, or build an Ukulele? Are you a Dungeon Master, a Drifter or Luthier? Let us know, and send us more ideas for things we can talk about in future pods.

Kahai talks about Kauai specific experiences like Pronto Pops, Flying Saucers, playing in farms/pastures, and low tech animal husbandry. Aaron shares his nostalgic affection for Snakeboards & MiniDisc Players. We also discuss Kendamas, Pogs, Yo-Yos and the "Sukebe" nature of Dragon Ball. Let us know the fads, experiences, and crazes that were unique to where you lived.

    Hey Strandees,

hope you're hanging on for the ride! On this episode, we're revealing the Songs we wrote for the Songwriting Challenge. Aldrine plays his first original worship song inspired by Gary V. Kahai shows his anime coded song inspired by Pokemon and based on Frieren. Aaron wrote a song based on Michael Jackson and a childhood toy rat, but ended up with something deeper and more personal.

From there, we talk about how Songwriting can be used for introspection, and why even though there are AI song generators, you should still write songs for yourself. At the end of the pod, we answer a more light hearted question about our favorite TV Show themes.

We hope being vulnerable and showing our own songs will inspire you to give songwriting a shot. If you want us to listen to your songs, and feature them on the podcast, please send them to pastimeparadisepodcast@gmail.com. Also, please let us know if you have ideas for the next Songwriting Challenge.

    Hello Smoatmealers,

it's time for your favorite podcast, the Smoatmeal Pod, I mean the Pastime Paradise Podcast. At the start of the podcast, we give ourselves a little ego boost. When we actually get into the topic for this week's pod, we share common Myths or Snake Oils from our hobbies. Kahai talks about Headphone burn in, Aldrine mentions some Uke and One Piece accessories, while Aaron talks about the common misconceptions from Distance Running. For the end of the podcast, we give an update to the Smoatmeal Brand.

Hey guys, we have our first Audience submitted question for this issue of the PPod. This question comes from Genevieve:

What TV series, book series, movie franchises, etc., did/do you guys watch? From your childhoods, teens, adult years?

Kahai kicks of the question with his pick of the 90's Nicktoon: Hey Arnold! Aldrine continues with another Nicktoon show: Doug, and explains why the original resonated with him, but the Disney season didn't. While The Wonder Years influenced the early look of UU videos, Aaron's actual pick is the weird, iconic, surreal show: The Adventures of Pete and Pete.

Being kids of the 90's, we discuss the reason why we watched so much Nicktoons, how growing up in Hawaii affected our Cartoon habits, and the 90's experiences specifically born from technological limitations. At the end of the Pod, we exchange recommendations of more current and controversial shows. Please let us know the shows you grew up with, or what (current or controversial) shows we should check out?

    Hey Pastime Paradise Podcast Listeners,

On this issue of the PPPod, we're confessing the Obscure and Deep Rabbit Holes that we have found ourselves in. At the start of the Podcast, we reminisce hanging out at Aaron's Bachelor Party and all the "Debauchery" that was had. Aldrine mentions diving back into FX pedals and going down that Niche Rabbit Hole.

Kahai explains the Obscure Rabbit hole of Vtubers which leads to Aldrine making his own "Confession". From there, we have an expansive conversation on the similarities between Professional Wrestling, Drag Shows, and Vtubers, and the appeal of having an Onstage Persona.

Aaron talks about joining a Mystery Science Theater Club in College, and maybe falling too far down that Rabbit Hole. Kahai and Aldrine share their own stories of when "Aaron went too far". In a last minute tangent, we talk about Local 90's Hawaiian Comedy.

We want to hear your Rabbit Hole Confessionals! This is a judgement free zone, so please tell us about the deep or weird Rabbit Holes you've fallen into.
