We’re dropping the puck on the NHL’s Olympic break with a jam-packed show of odds and ends from the Philadelphia Flyers’ first 56 games.

With more than 2/3 of the season behind them the Flyers chances of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2020 are slimming, thanks in large part to their 2-8 record in 3-on-3 overtime games. But while their special teams rankings don’t look great, there may be reason for hope! And what’s up with Noah Cates? Where did his scoring go?

In the final game before a 19-day Olympic break, the Philadelphia Flyers needed almost 50 minutes to get double-digit shots against Ottawa Senators netminder James Reimer, who wasn’t in the NHL a month ago.

Dan Vladar did everything he could, but through 50 minutes Sean Couturier was the only Flyer with more than one shot on goal. Bill, Kelly & Charlie break down the loss, and discuss if this game could have been any worse.

I promise, this is the last day we talk about Rick Tocchet’s comments on Matvei Michkov during our interview at the Flyers Carnival. But, general manager Danny Briere did meet with the media prior to last night’s game, so today we have to discuss what was said.

The Philadelphia Flyers, who’ve won three games in 2026 and only one at home, badly needed a strong performance against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals in the penultimate game before the Olympic break. Philly got off to a strong enough start, taking a 2-0 lead before surrendering a short-handed goal in the second and an early game-tying goal in the third.

But it was Jamie Drysdale and the Flyers power play that won the game, along with Dan Vladar’s excellent third period, to give the Flyers their first victory against an Eastern Conference opponent since December 16th.
