Good evening. North Dakota. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside and you might bump into your own mailbox. We're dealing with a wall of fog tonight. Visibility has dropped to a quarter mile or less across much of the state, so a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 10 A.M. Thursday. That covers the James River Valley and southeastern North Dakota. If you're driving tonight or tomorrow morning, please take it slow and use those low beams. In the next 24 hours. Right now, we're sitting at 28 degrees under gray skies. But here's the strange part: drive north and the thermometer crashes. Northern North Dakota is shivering at just 9 degrees. Central areas hover at 19 degrees. The east checks in at 23 degrees. That's a 14-degree spread from the Canadian border down to the South Dakota line. Tonight, that fog sticks around statewide. Lows drop to 9 degrees up north, 19 in central areas. And 23 in the east. Watch out for that east wind blowing at 10 to 14 miles an hour. It makes it feel much colder. Wind chills dip to minus 7 in the north by 11 P.M. Thursday brings a wild temperature swing. Eastern North Dakota warms all the way to 50 degrees. Central areas hit 45. But the north? Only 25 degrees. Same state, completely different days. The fog should finally lift by mid-afternoon. Friday turns tricky with a cold front sweeping through. We could see freezing rain changing to snow. Highs hold in the mid-30s with gusty northwest winds. The weekend looks fantastic. Saturday brings sunshine and highs near 55. Sunday could hit 60 in central areas. Perfect weather for a walk. Next week turns colder and more active. Snow chances return Monday night through Wednesday, with highs dropping back into the 20s and 30s. By the way, we're gaining over three minutes of daylight each day now. Sunrise is at 7:02 A.M. With sunset at 6:17 P.M. and tonight's full moon will be fighting to shine through those foggy skies. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
