  • Stop Forgetting - You're Not Made For Here
    Aug 7 2023

    *Season 1 Final Episode!*

What do you keep forgetting so often that forgetting has now become more of a habit than the thing you're forgetting? Who do you keep forgetting about? Do you keep forgetting who you are? Don't forget to give yourself grace.

    My Plank: FORGETTING

    Verses:

    James 1

    Psalm 77

    Psalm 119: 57 - 112

    1 Chronicles 16:11

Action Step: Stop forgetting you are a child of God. Stop forgetting to ask God for what you need. He will provide HOPE. He will provide you with a greater sense of reverence and honor for Him if you ask for it. What things are the most difficult for you to remember? Notice ways you place some thoughts, actions, or even forgetfulness above God. Invite God to show you how to purposefully rethrone Him, and to always remind you of what and who you are. Repent and Ask Him to break any bonds you may have formed of allegiance with things of this world that are not of Him. Declutter your insides too. What other verses do you think should be used for this plank?

    What is My Planks?

If I want to make BIG societal changes, where do I start? Well, it may sound cliche or naive, but the first step is to look at ourselves. Jesus told us we start with ourselves by removing the planks from our own eye before addressing the specks in the eyes of others.

So that's what I'm doing here. I'm rebuilding myself after 10 years of rare disease. Welcome to My Planks. I'll share one of my planks each week. Every episode will end with an optional repentance minute, if that week's plank was familiar to you too, you can join in.

Repentance is key. We can't just point out our planks, we need to repent to God, and get His help removing them. Supernatural help from God the Father is ALWAYS THE BEST DECISION.

Join me as we change the world by starting with ourselves.

  • Stop Excluding - "Us" Is No Better Than "Them"
    Jul 31 2023

What does exclusion look like today? In what ways do we exclude others passively? Actively? How many different ways do we exclude people in Christian spaces?

    My Plank: EXCLUDING

    Verses:

    Matthew 20: 29-34

    Matthew 22

    Luke 6

    Acts 2:39

Action Step: Notice ways you have perpetrated exclusion. Invite God to show you how to purposefully rethrone Him. Repent and Ask Him to break any bonds you may have formed of allegiance with things of this world that are not of Him, that are preventing you from INCLUDING others into the message of Jesus. Jesus defeated death for ALL people. What other verses do you think should be used for this plank?

  • Stop Stupidity - Ask for Wisdom
    Jul 24 2023

What does stupidity look like? What does wisdom look like on a day by day, minute by minute basis? In what ways do I trust in myself, more than I trust God? How do I unintentionally overlook wisdom in my thoughts, actions, and habits? When's the last time I asked God for wisdom, and asked Him to guide the implementation of His wisdom into my life?

    My Plank: STUPIDITY :-)

    Verses:

    Proverbs 28

    Proverbs 1

    Proverbs 29

    Matthew 5

    James 1:5

Action Step: Ask God to highlight the areas where you have developed dumb habits. Notice where your wisdom fails to be put into practice. Notice ways you place some things above God unintentionally. Invite God to show you how to purposefully rethrone Him. Repent and Ask Him to break any bonds you may have formed of allegiance with things of this world that are not of Him. Ask God to lead you in wisdom, to give you wisdom, and to help you implement wise actions and decisions more into your everyday life. What other verses do you think should be used for this plank?

  • Stop Pretending - Be Real
    Jul 17 2023

How do we successfully become "one body"? One way is by no longer pretending. How many different ways do we pretend today? Both on purpose, and accidentally? Out of habit? Out of exhaustion? Do the ways we pretend isolate us from others? Does pretending impede us from glorifying God fully and intentionally?

We also don't need to decieve ourselves or others by pretending to have everything wrapped up perfectly. We begin by admitting our own planks to trusted people. Make the time to tend to and care for this part of our Godly friendships.

    My Plank: PRETENDING

    Verses:

    James 5

    Proverbs 28

    1 John 1

    1 Peter 2

Action Step: Could you live in a way that is closer to following Jesus's actual life example? Will you purposefully take steps to admit and confess and renounce your sins and those places you need to work on? We're all human. We all have problems. We all hurt. We all fall short. We all fail. What we need to do, is stop pretending to those around us that our life is perfectly tied up.

What things would be most difficult for you to bring into the light around a trusted, Jesus-following partner? Are you a trusted Jesus-follower who your closest people can confide in? Asked God to form you more into this type of person.

Notice ways you place some habits above God. Invite God to show you how to purposefully rethrone Him. Repent and Ask Him to break any bonds you may have formed of allegiance with things of this world that are not of Him. What other verses do you think should be used for this plank?

  • Stop Condescending - Jesus Humbled Himself
    Jul 10 2023

Let's repent for all the times we resort to condescending insteading of leading by humility. Leading like Jesus. Jesus had the ultimate ability to patronize, but He taught. He explained. He reasoned. He sometimes got frustrated at people who were trying to trick Him. So if anyone could be justified in condescending and patronizing, it was Jesus. And yet, He didn't. He explained, used parables. He used contexts His listeners would understand according to their culture. He met people right where they were, and not where they should have been. His actions never profited from the detriment of another human. Encourage, inspire, lift up, teach people of Jesus in a way that stirs their affection. Not in condemnation, hate, and anger. RECOGNIZE. REPENT. REMOVE.

    My Plank: CONDESCENDING

    Verse:

Romans 15:2 "Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up."

The entirety of Jesus' ministry when He walked on earth.

    Action Step:

RECOGNIZE. REPENT. REMOVE. Recognize the moments you are condescending. Notice the feeling in the room after you say something condescending. Recognize your tendency to be condescending and start correcting yourself imediately. Ask the recipient for forgiveness immediately. Let's practice RECOGNIZING, REPENTING, and REMOVING our codescension.

As always, notice ways you place some things above God. Invite God to show you how to purposefully rethrone Him. Repent and Ask Him to break any bonds you may have formed of allegiance with things of this world that are not of Him. Time to declutter our insides too. • Stop Doubting - Have Faith in God
    Jul 3 2023

How does Jesus address doubting? Why do I struggle with how much my God can do today? God's not sitting there with a score card subtracting points every time I doubt. The more I took my doubts to God directly, the less I doubted.

    My Plank: DOUBTING

    Verses:

    Matthew 14

    Romans 8

    Mark 11

Action Step: Don't let your doubts sit and fester in your mind. Pray to God, and take those doubts before Him. The more you practice this Now, be careful of that BIG faith, don't be irresponsible with the power of God.

As always, Notice ways you place some doubts above God. Invite God to show you how to purposefully rethrone Him. Repent and Ask Him to break any bonds you may have formed of allegiance with things of this world that are not of Him. Ask Him to restore your faith without doubts. Jun 26 2023

What do you begin with good intentions but then end up quitting? Has quitting become a bad habit? Some tips for laundry day. :-)

    My Plank: QUITTING

    Verses:

    Romans 15

    Matthew 4

    Luke 6

Action Step: What things do you intend to do but regularly end up not following through? Notice ways you place some things above God. Invite God to show you how to purposefully rethrone Him. Repent and Ask Him to break any bonds you may have formed of allegiance with things of this world that are not of Him. • Stop Bullying - Help Stop the Epidemic of Bullying
    Jun 19 2023

Don't laugh at bullying jokes. Whether it's happened to us, or to those around us, we've all experienced being bullied. Unfortunately sometimes we also contribute to the active bullying side of that equation by becoming a part of the bully. Don't laugh at bullying jokes, and don't contribute to the bullying, are first steps. Sure. But we should go a step farther, and speak up on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves (Proverbs 31:8). What does anti-bullying look like in action and habit change? How do we practically examine our behaviors and habits in each setting and change them for the better?

    My Plank: BULLYING

    Verses:

    1 Peter 2

    Matthew 22

    Proverbs 31

    Proverbs 3:27

Literally the whole entire Holy Bible

Action Step: Notice ways you unintentionally contribute to bullying. Notice how you place your comfort above the will of God by allowing bullying to continue around you. Invite God to show you how to purposefully rethrone Him. Repent and Ask Him to break any bonds you may have formed of allegiance with things or influences of this world that are not of Him. Stop bullying before it starts within yourself, and when you witness it in your communities. Don't give in to online comment hate. Examine your intentions and impact in all of the communities and groups you belong to, and notice the gap between the two. Take steps to notice and change bad patterns and behaviors. You can always ask God to realign your intentions with His will. What other verses do you think should be used for this plank?
