I sat down a year ago with one of my favorite burlesque pals, Ginger Valentine, to have a spunky, fired up, real, honest talk about the highs and lows of burlesque, ADHD, and what happens when you show up extremely authentically. Ginger was one of the first friends I made when I started doing burlesque in Texas a billion years ago and I’ve been SO OVERJOYED her watching her flourish! When we did this interview a year ago (sorry y’all time is a funny creature) she had just been named NUMBER ONE in 21st Century Magazine’s Burlesque Top 50 list, and since then she was named #1 again! It’s been fabulous witnessing her become a mega inspirational figure with her Strip School a monthly online training program for burlesque, which is why I wanted to interview her for you! Jolie Goodnight is an international award winning burlesque headliner, jazz singer, and pioneer of the singing striptease of the Modern Burlesque Revival. Ginger Valentine is an award winning showgirl and veteran of the neo burlesque movement. She has toured extensively worldwide, and been named to the top 50 Burlesque Industry Figures each year since 2011. She offers online training programs and her own subscription service, MemberStrip. She lives by the beach in California where she is often found rollerskating.

What made me want to interview her today is her ability to project ease. From her vintage style, to her buttery voice, everything she does is with a smooth air of graceful composure. I’m endlessly inspired by her sense of impeccable style and any time she steps on stage, I’m excited. Before we dive into our conversation, I have to tell you, I got too excited talking with her, and I forgot how to read time and our chat was cut way too short. Oops! I’m joined by international burlesque sensation and a star of stage and screen, Ruby Joule. 21stCentury Burlesque magazine in London named her “the poised porcelain princess of tease,” and she’s won “Most Classic” at the Burlesque Hall of Fame, twice and that’s part of the reason I wanted to talk to her today. Ruby Joule is known for her uncanny ability, through glamour, grace and poise, to transport you to another time. And that’s a special quality, to bring a modern audience, back to 1941 with such ease. In a world that’s obsessed with trends, it’s inspiring to see someone effortlessly reflect such a profound sense of authenticity and glamour throughout her classic inspired career.
